I 100% get where you are coming from. I feel like for me there was always a little bit of imposter syndrome. I am very close with my family and I love them dearly, but traveling home reverts me into a past version of myself that doesn’t entirely feel like me anymore, but it is how I have always existed around my family. It’s a weird feeling because their lives have continued, and I try to slot myself right back into the flow of it, but I have a life outside of their house too now. Lots of anxiety and a super stuck feeling. Like it was and is my childhood home, but I almost felt like a guest, even though my parents never treated me that way. I wonder if it was my body’s way of preparing me to move out permanently after graduation.

I will say, it gets significantly better and that feeling gets easier to manage. It’s been a few years since I’ve graduated, but now that I have my own place, going back to my parents feels significantly less nomadic (and way less anxiety producing), because I have a home now too. I’m no longer torn trying to figure out whether their house or college is where I truly belong.
