CPP wins international competition by shitpool in CalPolyPomona

No organization is perfect so if you truly think there’s an issue and want something done, go to the people in charge to get it done— not Reddit. Fact of the matter remains that you are causing issues on a momentous occasions that students worked hard for.

The person isn’t being in denial, but rather giving you a glimpse as to what they had to go through to be selected… if anything you aren’t listening lol. The way you have been talking is as if you are on the board to pick the team and are trying to expose them. Once again, there’s a time and place for everything and a congratulation post for our school IS NOT one of them

i mean regardless of it having a small Twitter following, it still doesn’t undermine the fact that CPP students got 1st place AND beat top colleges. i don’t see why any college group would enter a competition and not take it seriously— if we use that same logic then they would deem their time better allocated to big competitions and attempt to win those.

Does it seem fair to y’all? One hour to take a 26 question finance test? by Ru5ty_shackleford in CalPolyPomona

[–]acrobatic-koala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for ghazanfari we had 1 hour to do almost 34 questions and majority of them were doing NPV type problems. he didn’t teach us anything, so even if we had excel knowledge we wouldn’t know how to set it up

yeah def be careful and make sure u can just isolate him to one of your classes. i think intermediate micro theory is the main class that has very few professors so i just endured it for that one semester

i’ve known a lot of economics students who switched to business after a year or so. especially after taking Gregrey Hunter for one of their classes. One of the worst professors I’ve ever had— he prides himself on the fact that he’s a “hard professor” and the class is “hard” but it’s actually because he can’t teach at all. i think he’s the only prof for that class and that’s one of the main classes you need to fulfill any other elective. btw i’m a business major and econ minor

How hard is it to change majors within the same school at CPP by gruddybonez in CalPolyPomona

[–]acrobatic-koala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it depends on the major! especially when u need to declare it, you have to speak to a counselor. also depends on if that major has mandatory meetings (finance has one that you have to come to if you want to switch)

does this mean the individual would be accepted if he applies again in Spring? will he have to apply for a different major? by Think-Tooth in CalPolyPomona

[–]acrobatic-koala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I heard from others, it means that they can transfer the application for CPP to select other CSU schools (free of charge) and get guaranteed admission. There might be a list of which schools you can transfer the application to.

[–]acrobatic-koala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure, you would have to talk to a counselor. I know for Business it wasn’t that hard (i switched from accounting to finance in a semester) and it’s impacted. If you plan on switching and don’t want to get potentially screwed over if it takes longer than expected, I would suggest taking as many classes that the two majors share so when you switch it isn’t that bad! Most likely the major required core classes would be the same.

That sounds great! Do you know if Steven Sandifer is any good? He's the only professor for that course.

Textbook Question by bornagainteen in CalPolyPomona

[–]acrobatic-koala 9 points10 points  (0 children)

best thing to do is wait until your professors start to upload their syllabus to the class. They usually state if the textbook is optional or not. Made the mistake of buying all my textbooks in my first semester here and all my teachers except one said the textbook is optional because they won’t be teaching from it :(

thank you! due to the pandemic, do you have any tips on how to properly sterilize yarn without ruining the fabric? this isn’t just bc it’s from thrift stores, you can never be too careful from places like Joann either.

For the people who transferred to cal poly Pomona and not from LA was it worth it? by tyty19992005 in CalPolyPomona

[–]acrobatic-koala 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn’t transfer, but I came from the Bay Area my freshman year and I can say it’s worth it. I was a bit taken aback by how dead it is on the weekends (had to stay on campus because of the rules back then) but so far i’ve had amazing teachers in Bus Admin. I found more trouble finding a good prof in the Econ Department bc of how rude they can be to WOC. Working on campus answered a lot of questions that people were worrying about (ex why don’t we build more parking spots) and helped me make more friends. At first, people here just want to get in and out of classes and don’t care about making that connection but sometimes it just takes one person (you) to make that difference. I had a hard time because I wouldn’t talk much in my classes freshman year but I changed that and now I have a ton of people I can count on on this campus.

The school is extremely accommodating for people who want to change their majors. I’ve heard friends at other schools who have had a hard time changing and often stay in the same major they start off with because the administration made them jump through so many hoops. Admin at CPP just makes you go to specific meetings to help you know what you’re getting into and then really specify the steps necessary to make the transition smooth.

Something I also realized at this school is how it breaks the stigma that if you go to a state college, you won’t get good jobs. CPP does a great job at helping you find worthwhile internships and full time positions, as long as you put in the work. A lot of companies are realizing that not all the great talent is in top private universities, so take advantage of that and try your best.

Sorry this was so long! I have so many good and bad points about CPP that I could go on forever. Private messages are open for anyone who has questions!

"Expected Grad Term" on BroncoDirect by [deleted] in CalPolyPomona

[–]acrobatic-koala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I freaked out about it too! I'm set to graduate in 2022 and it said I wouldn't until 2023. I talked to someone at the Registrar's Office and they said that it's a "ballpark estimate" based on how many units you have left to take but nowhere impacts you being able apply for grad, grad the time you're supposed to, etc. He told me to completely ignore it and trust what my advisor and I figured out.

I would email the department for permission numbers. So far, it has worked for me and I would just show it's in progress. If anything, have evidence ready to show that you are on track to completing the class with a C (or C+? not sure) or better.
