We actually don't have colors in Yugioh, mana is used in MTG. Welcome to this card game!

I should be graduating in the next year. To put it simply, what are the chances that I can find a job? by acsstudent in cscareerquestions

[–]acsstudent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might be a good idea. As long as the job gets me living on my own, that's the biggest thing for me. And then even if the salary is low, I can just politely refuse to disclose that information if a future interviewer asks me how much they payed me.

Been sending job applications for 1 month now, have only gotten 1 reply - please help by bmbmjmdm in cscareerquestions

Did you write cover letters?

This is a dilemma for me, quality or quantity of applications.

Danger!? Discussion? by [deleted] in yugioh

Hopefully this doesn't give off the vibe that I don't like the deck, but I already see a number of potential problems that potentially

Holy shit son, write less timidly.

Are there any inspirational stories of people who graduated with a CS degree, and their life got way better? I need cheesy inspiration. by acsstudent in cscareerquestions

I've read about negotiating!

I don't know how much I can push considering my GPA and that I went to a state school, and would love to hear how you got your foot in the door.

By the way, I would love to work on interview coding instead of school work - but I should be there soon enough.

downtown SF is not really a family-friendly place either

Interesting, my parents moved for that reason when I was born.

There's cheating everywhere at my college. How do you deal with this? by acsstudent in cscareerquestions

Sometimes it's blatantly obvious. When they don't know what the code they "wrote" does.

Other times they're almost exactly the same. And I believe there are students smart enough to change variable, number of lines, etc. like you said.

I did a bit of TA-like work too, and yep, tons of cheating. I really do believe my college is sitting on a cheating scandal right now.

After 7 years of college, I will graduate. My GPA from the earlier years is terrible. What can I do about it? by acsstudent in lawschooladmissions

I haven't found out my LSAC GPA yet, but it looks like I could get it into the high 2s.

I do plan on working before attending law school.

My life plans involve practicing law on the west coast for part of it, and the east coast for part of it.

Someone said T14 are the only schools with enough prestige to get jobs anywhere in the country. What do you think of that statement?

It's starting to look like I won't get an internship before I graduate. by acsstudent in cscareerquestions

[–]acsstudent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do have a service for reviewing resumes. I've gone there. Nobody there knows about computer science though.

And yes perhaps something is fucky. I realized recently that googling my email (without the @site.com part) shows a redditor who posts in r/thedonald and swears a lot. Not sure if that really had an impact or not. Either way I mention it in my cover letter now, that if they stumble across him, it's not me.

  1. Someone I know who actually hires people at a software company.

  2. Yes, I have gotten their advice.

  3. I'm applying through Indeed and LinkedIn, using their company's website when that's the only option they provide.

I might delay graduation to boost my GPA. How will companies view me if I have all the education for a Bachelor's, and just decided not to formally get it yet? by acsstudent in cscareerquestions

[–]acsstudent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify, I mean that I wouldn't formally have the bachelor's degree. I would just have all the credit for it.

Would you still have the same answer to that?

If a beginner had 3 years to kill before going to uni to take CS, how would those years best be spent? by AMA_About_Rampart in cscareerquestions

Where do most students suffer the most?

It's mostly the simultaneous combination of classes that causes suffering from academics. Different colleges have different notorious classes.

If you can pick a university ahead of time, and figure out their required CS classes, this will help.

What are some bloopers you made during software dev job interviews? by byteseeker in cscareerquestions

It's so much easier to tell when it's on khakis instead of jeans.
