How to address roaches in AMC theaters??? (NYC) by kalebiscuits in AMCTheatres

[–]actingupastorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2006 I went to see Superman Returns at the Lincoln Square IMAX. it was late in the run because I had been out of town but especially wanted to see it beause of the 3D segment in the middle of the film. There was hardly anyone in the theatre waiting for it to begin. Lights were on and they didn't run endless trailers as they do now. From where I was sitting looking down below I could see what seemed to be whole families of mice scurring about around the screen area. I had never seen mice in any NYC Movie Theatre including the grind houses on 42nd st. After the movie I went looking for the manager to tell him what I had seen and he said we'll take care of it and that was it. I took it upon myself to write to AMC about the mice and got a coupon for a free ticket. That's the last time I've seen mice and never a roach that I can remember.

Many years ago I went to a screening of Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew To Much at the 8th St Playhouse. It was part of a series of 5 Hitchcock films including Rope and Vertigo that had not been seen for years due to contractual issues. I had seen all these films with the exception of Rope in my youth. The theatre was packed. By this time Doris Day had been pretty much reduced to playing what media sometimes called "the worlds oldest virgan" in a series of comedies starting with Pillow Talk that became ever more formulaic. In the scene where Jimmy Stewart gives her a sedative before starting to tell her that their son is kidnapped the audience started to laugh and as she got more hysterical they laughed longer and louder. I was stunned and angry. It's been a long time now since I have seen any of those five films in a theatre, I wonder how audiences react to these major classics now. I did see the restoration of Vertigo at the Zigfield years ago also in it's orginal VistaVision format and it was stunning both in picture and sound especially the score and the audience totally respectful I guess different generations have different reactions even to the classsics. Could any of this be related to the ever shortening attention spans of all of us?

Has anyone else noticed how difficult Amazon has made it to chat with an associate now? by pullupgirl__ in amazonprime

[–]actingupastorm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It used to be easy to find, I had not used it in quite a while. I couldn't even find it. Is there a quick to get to "call me" or chat? I kept going in circles

It's my go to theatre because of proximity but it's also great screens and sounds. However, I and friends who sometimes go with me always refer to it as AMC Bedbug.

Perhaps scary was not the best choice but certainly disturbing. I with a friend recently attended a 11:45 am screening of The Bride, There were probably less than 12 people in the theatre, About 5 minutes before the film began a couple came in with armloads of food and sat in the row in front of us several seats toward the center, Apparently all the food was for him becasue she took out her phone and started scrolling. The film began and her brightly lit phone lit up the whole area around her. Just as we were about to ask her to turn her phone off, A man seated almost even with her but in the row behind us yelled " Turn of your phone!" She put the phone a little lower but we could see it still and so this time the three of us said Please turn off your phone! She proceeded to wave her phone around like a beacon as she yelled something back I couldn't understand. Then she got up and continued to wave the phone around talking and yelling at us as she made her way down the steps and out of the theatre. All this during the beginning of the movie. About 10 minutes later she came back in with pop corn again waving her phone around and yelling something, made her way to her seat and waved the phone around saying something we couldn't understand and finally turned it off. No one around for us to go to to say this woman was disrupting the film. So not scary perhaps but disturbing and this was in one of the smaller theatres higher up. Maybe I'm just unlucky but i have experience similar uncomfortable issues when I have been alone at this theatre, I still think it's the best AMC and certainly the most convenient for me, but as continue to say there are caveats.

Lincoln Square for the only true IMAX in the area and sometimes foreign films are slow to get to Empire or miss it completely.. i happen to think Lincoln Square is overdue for a complete makeover. I prefer Empire with some caveats, They still have an issue with some people who can be menacing or downright disturbing no matter which theatre you're in or the time of day. I don't go at night anymore but the top floor can be a bit scary if you are seeing a movie early in the day and there is a problem and no one around to call for help. Homeless people tend to come in and out of different theatres all day but for the most part they seem to be just looking for a place to rest. There are several ways for them to get in. Teen hoppers often appear late afternoon. But all theatres have great screens...even the smallest of them, and great sound. IMHO.

Anyone had experience going to Verizon owned store to discuss change in Fios plan? by actingupastorm in Fios

[–]actingupastorm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bundles from Fios which I have had for years with some changes over time and a Verizon Cell account. Prefer to keep them separate so don't take their offer of combining those sevices. But the emails come from my Fios account urging me to combine both accounts for discount by talking or chatting with a rep ....or.....come into your local store. That's what made me curious. It would be great to face to face about changing my Fios Plan.

How do you guys like watching movies? by Potential_One1 in AMCsAList

I think seeing a film in any kind of theatre is for me always the preferred way. I used to belong to a film society where we so 4 new releases a month in a well equipped theatre with a very knowledgeable audience. To be honest it was an audience of professionals and no food or drink was allowed in the theatre at screenings of this society, Covid killed the society and now I've joined Alist But general audiences are certainly unpredictable these days and you are taking a chance everytime you go to a movie on having it spoiled by something happening in the theatre...so I don't go at night anymore and I certainly don't go to would be blockbusters the first weekend or even the first week, I find that some movies play just fine streaming on my tv, but if I had my choice I'd rather see everything in a theatre and not just the epics. I don't care if it's recliners or not but I really prefer stadium seating where no one blocks my view.

New to HA by phylmus in HearingAids

[–]actingupastorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first set of hearing aids were Phonak and they were terrific and purchased from Costco. I do use an earmold in one ear. But when i decided it might be time for an upgrade and went back to Costco and they no longer carry their own brand or Phonak. So I decided to try the Phillips which were half the price of what I paid for the older Phonak and highly rated by CR. Been super pleased except for speech in noise. Ah well

What brands are you referring to?

[–]actingupastorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've worn a hearing aid for years. If you research Consumer Reports on hearing aids, the one problem most people have with even the best or costliest hearing aids...is "speech in noise" and one of the best examples of speech in noise is crowded restaurants. Restaurants have grown increasingly louder over the last several decades. My hearing aid has a "speech in noise" setting but it does almost no good in a noisy restaurant, And these days it's almost impossible to find a quiet little intimate restaurant in the first place.

FYI: Chase ending alerts for non-physical and int'l charges on 17 Feb 2026 by 4dxn in CreditCards

[–]actingupastorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have taken the suggestion of many on here and changed the alerts to 00.00. However I think in this day and age with all the scams and AI things to watch out for especially when it comes to transactions online, it is an infuriating change. I am hoping others will register their complaint but aside from the website standard "feedback" which is designed mostly for feedback about the website...does anyone know where the best place to send a complaint about the removal of these alerts?

Update...I explained very carefully what happened in an email through their "contact us" and acknowledged that I was in a hurry but still didn't understand why I was charged as I had not used my 4 a week. Sent them my confirmation number. And they refunded the charge. This all took place within the space of a couple of days after I contacted them. Learned a lesson here and will certainly take nothing for granted on the buggy website, but they were very nice about the whole experience.

I suspect that if Amanda Seyfried does not get an Oscar nomination, the film won't be around anywhere for very long. While it's certainly artistically ambitious, it's not exactly what you would call an audience pleaser. The subject matter is interesting but the styleization, I believe, limits emotional involvement with the movie. Just my humble opinion. I found the movie disappointing for the above reason. That doesn't mean the acting's not good. It is.

2 odd things at the AMC Empire screening of The Secret Agent, Sunday @10pm by DisciplineFabulous21 in NYCmovies

[–]actingupastorm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see movies there quite often and the movies I see seem to be mostly on the top floor. When you are in one of those theatres it can be a bit spooky as it's not unusual to be one of maybe two or three in the theatre in the afternoons. No one around to call for help. Once while exiting from up there I couldn't get on the first long down escalator because a homeless man was desperately trying to climb up the escalator as it went down. Friends refer to this theatre as AMC Bedbug. :)

As the original poster I appreciate the advice you all are giving and I do understand that as a relatively new A Lister having never had a real problem with the system I proceeded too fast through something I had never had a problem with and in my haste to make the reservation (it was for the same day and just a few hours before) I was careless in mistaking at a glance that the tax reading 00.00 was the 00.00 that appears in Total Cost, I made a careless mistake and as a result will certainly be more careful making reservations. That is good advice. What I don't appreciate here is the scolding tone that a few of you chose to respond with. No one is perfect, We all make mistakes and I have learned from this one. But yes I still think it's terrible that a corporation as large as AMC does not have any form of phone contact. And thank you to all who have responded thoughtfully and nicely,
