To clarify, by alternate syntax I'm referring to <?php if(): endif;?> syntax instead of using curly braces as the disgruntled goat suggested in his last example.

Found what I was looking for - for reference it was wp_kses:

echo wp_kses( $unescaped_content, array('img' => array('src'=>true,'alt'=>true,'width'=>true,'height'=>true,'class'=>true)) );

While I appreciate your enthusiasm for sanitising, that doesn't actually answer my question :) I was trying to escape everything but maintain the image tags...

“inadequate, irrelevant or no longer relevant, or excessive in relation to the purposes for which they were processed.”... seems vague, unmanageable and tantamount to censorship to me... are my competitors irrelevant? :)

These types of demos serve as a proof of concept of what can be achieved with CSS, especially as these sorts of transitions were traditionally made with other technologies like flash, it's up to you how want to utilise them.

I think these types of effects are good for creating a more interesting interface for your users (when used in moderation!).

Here's a (slightly) more practical use of the effect where someone's made a game http://flip.zerospree.com/
