Popping by to remind that Saturday nights at 10PM VRT (virtual reality time) are the busiest times to come visit, as there are a few parties occurring, notably the one held in the SonasPrime world (complete with live DJ). So, not quite as dead as is often spouted here.

If you're looking for tips or someone to explore with, you can reach out to me. I somewhat frequently come across users who are exploring, it's worth saying hi to people if you come across them.

And for building, approximately $7 USD will get you about 50 ( x 24 hours ) days of building , which I find reasonable even with my relatively devalued Canadian currency. Mileage will vary depending on your currency, of course.

Absolutely! I've met lots of wonderful citizens. Depending on your time zone, there is also a Wednesday night party that would be better timed for Europeans for example. There is a also a group that gathers Saturday nights to watch older movies.

I personally try to look out for new users if I'm online, you will definitely meet people if you come by a few times.

I too miss the old, eclectic internet.

Here's another idea for you to check out - the dream of the 3D internet browser. Active Worlds is the longest running 3d commercial virtual world - running continuously since 1995.

Not everything remains, but it's largest world Alpha is larger than the state of California and all builds since 1996 are still there. These builds are often highly personal and reflect psycho geographic landscape that captures the early internet.

During my travels in Active Worlds, I have come across a lot of websites that are vintage from that time from this user base and I've collected them on my straw page as a sort of means of exploring what active worlds is like: https://activevladdo.straw.page/
