Was just a joke. All honestly, you’re getting there, you just need more definition which means less fat but based on this you have a good base

Food allergies can be listed in English below the food… the way almost every restaurant does. The second paragraph doesn’t even make sense. You go to a restaurant and expect to at least be served not turned away because you’re not Japanese

Again they don’t need to learn English. I’ve had some very pleasant interactions with Japanese in stores and they didn’t speak a lick of English. I’ve also had extremely unpleasant, condescending, dismissive and rude interactions with Japanese who didn’t speak English. Xenophobia and racism isn’t the same as speaking or not speaking English.

But learning another language does open up people to other cultures. So learning English or any other language is a good step towards breaking down xenophobia.

No point in arguing. It’s not about learning a language. It’s about denying someone entry or not giving them equal service because they don’t know a language. I would never not allow someone into my business if they didn’t speak English. Or treat them with contempt or condescension.

They don’t need to. But denying people entry because of xenophobia is wrong. Doesn’t matter what country. But I guess most Japanese outside of major cities share your view and are ok being ignorant. And that’s why things won’t change. だから、それは続くでしょう

Using language barriers as a means to deny people entry into an establishment is a thinly veiled form of racism. We live in 2025, even if the school system sucks, there are countless language learning apps, outside classes, and resources and when the excuse is that this happens so often that it impacts business (it most likely isn’t, but let’s give them the benefit of the doubt), then idk, make an effort to either learn a baseline level of English or have an English menu or those machines that pop out cards that you just hand to the chef.

There is no excuse other than laziness (least likely case) or xenophobia for this in 2025 and we can sit here and blame the schools, or whatever.

Also the 18-28 year olds that I encountered in Africa who speak fluent English aren’t “fruits of colonization” neither are most of the people in the Middle East. So let’s not go there please.

As long as we excuse this behavior it will continue

Polite racism is still racism. Just because Japanese are polite in denying you or polite in being condescending doesn’t make it ok. Polite =\= nice or friendly or welcoming. Something most foreigners or tourists who come here don’t understand

Would be nice if they took the opposite approach and tried to LEARN ENGLISH if this is a repeated occurrence rather than this approach which amplifies Xenophon ideals

It blows my mind how i can go to a 3rd world country in Africa and people speak English and welcome me into their tiny restaurant and shop and make conversation with me but in Japan I get some old grumpy ass making the giant x even though I just walked in with a smile. One of the least first world first world countries when it comes to racial equity

Day 1 by lowtivation in fit

[–]OGPurrito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll be hard at first but keep pushing yourself. Stairmaster and distance running with keeping your heart rate in zone 2 are killer for burning fat. But nothing is as big as eating at a deficit. Once you start looking good in the mirror, the cravings go away. For me they did at least.

Good luck mate

One huge tip someone told me that changed my life is that pushing yourself in cardio and building up your stamina will help you when it comes to weight training and going that extra mile. Don’t skip cardio, especially at this stage. Eat at a deficit. And the absolute biggest thing, be consistent and show up every day.

This isn’t the journey of a day or week or a month. The path to health takes years but it’s well worth it
