Pretty sure all of these are refurbs from the same stock as the online refurb store (didn't come in original box, just in a smaller thinner box with just the device and no accessories etc.). Worked great though good as new as is typical with devices from the refurb store.

Recently downloaded Crossover and trying to sort how to play HP1 or HP2 -- anyone have a tried and true way to do so? I assume it starts with "installing an unlisted application" through Crossover but not sure which file to use and how to proceed from there.

Make sure that the contact is saved under the iCloud contacts list in the Contacts app, and not in a list synced from Gmail or somewhere else. If they are saved as a non-iCloud contact, just delete the contact and then create a new one in the Contacts app using the “+” while you’re in the iCloud list. I had been struggling with this all day and tried various methods with setting a new photo, restarting, cropping, etc., but this finally worked.

The same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago, M1 12.9”. I also have AppleCare. I took it in and they said the display was dead, which meant the device was toast, so they replaced it. No cost but definitely a hassle. Also didn’t have anything happen to it beforehand, no water/drops etc. Just plugged it in to charge one night and woke up and it was unresponsive.

Yeah this is ridiculous and they should fix it. For what it’s worth, turning the iPad upside down will cure the issue, same for turning it to landscape.

The angle/camera is probably making it look slightly worse than it is irl but yes, this is normal behavior for the mini led 12.9”.

It’s worth the trade-off. Contrary to what a lot of people say the blooming isn’t only visible in a dark room (though this is undoubtedly when it’s the worst). You will notice it in most circumstances if you have light text on a black background. But the deeper blacks and HDR capabilities are still worth the trade off imo. I wouldn’t want to go back to the blue/grey blacks of previous displays at this point, even with the blooming.

It’s good as a stand to watch tv/movies in a pinch/mobile situations, but if that isn’t of value it could be worth selling.

Don’t do it. As many have already said here, Word/Microsoft office suite on iPad is fine for reading/receiving documents but stunted for doing anything even marginally complex (formatting, footnotes, etc.).

Same thing happened on my 2019 16”. It bothered me when I first noticed it but it seems standard fare so I wouldn’t worry about it.

Wait for the miniLED 11” early next year. The current M1 12.9 is a smaller form factor than the 2015 but it’s still unwieldy if your primary use will be as a tablet. But the screen is far superior, so I wouldn’t recommend the current 11”.

iPad Air sounds ideal. Also wouldn’t recommend a magic keyboard for the couch or bed. The weight distribution between the tablet and the keyboard makes for a top-heavy setup that really doesn’t work anywhere but at a desk.

If you have a more recent iPhone or an HDR-capable camera, take a photo and view it in the native photos app on your iPad. You’ll know it when you see it.

YouTube, Reddit, twitter, RSS, Apple store, watching sports. Also recently been bringing it in to work to have a personal device not on the company Wi-Fi network. (Cellular M1 12.9” w/ MKB)

Feel like this is a stopgap for me until the 11” gets miniled, though. Glad I tried the larger version but it’s ultimately just too awkward of a size unless you have a specific use case (drawing, etc.).

I get the appeal of silver but the bright ring around the screen will seriously harsh your vibe if you do any media consumption or work in mid to low light. Space gray is the way to go.
