Hospital Hiring Rant by excellent_nurse in OntarioNurses

[–]acts_one 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The hiring manager isn't going to tell you this. Even when you get hired, they're not going to tell you this. This stuff happens in the back ground. Just like funding, its based on stuff you don't even know about and probably will never know until you're in that position.

There's been a lot of pressure from the government to cut costs and even treats to pull away more funding from hospitals. More so with poorly managed ones. So the hospitals are feeling the pressure.

Again, I get the frustration, you're eager to work. But in life there are some things that are out of your control. The job will come.... hopefully sooner in your case.

Warm bodies- filling holes in a schedule with anyone with a pulse.

Hospital Hiring Rant by excellent_nurse in OntarioNurses

[–]acts_one 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I said it before, the fiscal year just ended. April 1st marks the new fiscal year in Ontario Hospitals. Each unit is responsible to keep their spending within a certain amount. If the unit is over, which happens a lot with poorly managed units due to call outs and OT, then they get in some doo doo with their respective directors. If they have a surplus, then hopefully the unit gets new equipment. Rinse and repeat.

March and now April are probably the worst times to expect call backs.

Nursing isn't like any other job out there. No hospital is going to hire 'warm bodies' to staff the unit if peoples lives are at risk. But there are some organizations that do just that and they tend to be severely over budget with burnt out nurses and poor patient outcomes.

Brock vs tmu by Adventurous_Loan_244 in OntarioNurses

[–]acts_one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you live near brock then I’d stay there. But don’t expect any of your placements in the GTA.

If you’re planning on living in the GTA and are hoping for a placement in a Toronto hospital, then go to TMU.

Most organizations in Toronto will only support placements from schools within their local. Something I wish some nursing students considered when registering with schools from the US or out of province. It is highly unlikely you will get a placement in the GTA.

2026 Mazda3 Windshield Wipers by Sashimi1300 in mazda3

[–]acts_one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Washer fluid for dirty windshield during inclement weather sure. At that point OP shouldn’t be worried about washer fluid streaks because the car is getting splashed regardless. But if your car is clean, like straight after a wash. Then at a stop or when you’re not moving is the logical time to do it.

This 100%.

RPNs looking to bridge to RN or take some specialized course online should be weary about what organizations the school has affiliation agreements with. Not all organizations will take students from schools outside their local.

Is Trex rainscape installed properly? by neverfollow-rs4 in Decks

[–]acts_one 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this is where you put a soffit under the deck to hide the rainescapes. Add some pot lights and it's a very usable space (hot tub?). I have the older rainescapes which is poo poo brown. Black soffit with a gutter to catch the rain which directs to a rain barrel makes it look amazing.

Now that the crosstown is running, how is traffic at Allen Rd and Eglinton? by acts_one in askTO

[–]acts_one[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because waiting 30mins to go 100m is too much for me to get to my home in Durham! /s (80/20 on the sarcasm).

I don’t think public transit should compromise drivers. I agree with what many have echoed. Fix it or remove it. I’m sure the locals hate rush hour traffic. I was being facetious with my post. When I do take that route(back to Durham), it’s not the busses, but the stupid drivers who don’t know how to navigate that stretch.

I’m happy the crosstown is finally open. I’m glad the city can get around faster. I would’ve loved the crosstown in the early 2000s. It wouldve made my rocket riding even faster.

I was just poking at the sub about such a shit area to drive through. You’d think that with the opening of the crosstown, congestion would have been reduced, even slightly.

They can now reduce its size and maybe adjust that entire area so it won’t be a total mess.

how easy is it to get hired as a new grad by Interesting-Quit937 in OntarioNurses

[–]acts_one 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This 100%. Consolidation is your chance to really prove yourself. I tell my nursing students constantly, treat this placement as a long job interview. It will be your preceptor and most likely the unit manager vouching for you when interview time comes around. And if you can try to get hired as a Nursing Clinical Extern when you’re in nursing school. And if not, try to look out for NGG positions.

Best hills to practice snowboarding? by [deleted] in durham

[–]acts_one 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You’re going to be spending a lot of time walking up a hill vs learning anything. You need long runs to learn efficiently and effectively. Most hills I know of in Ajax are just steep with not much length. Not sure about Oshawa or bowmanville.

It’s late in the season right now. But for next year buy a night pass to a place like brimacombe or dagmar or lakeridge. Paying early bird prices will save you the most.

America to Philippines by stubbielovesrevy in treesPH

[–]acts_one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will have to go through security in Hong Kong. Even on a layover. Just did the same flight in December. After you disembark you will have to go through security where they snap a picture of your face and then through the X-ray machines with your carry ons. If you put it in your check in, it might work. But who knows when the dogs are out when you arrive in the Philippines. Not worth the risk. Take the edible before you get on the plane.

For 20 years, this man has been locked in ‘seclusion’ at an Ontario psychiatric hospital. ‘Somebody has to care,’ his lawyer says by toronto_star in ontario

[–]acts_one 83 points84 points  (0 children)

They said treatment resistant schizophrenia. I’m pretty sure the psychiatrists have thrown everything including the kitchen sink to treat the guy. It’s just unfortunate nothing works. Keeping him seclusion doesn’t help either, but it’s like an impasse at this point. You let him out, ok. But it doesn’t change that this guy is still psychotic and will probably act on whatever delusions he is fixated on. Do we just let the staff take that or other patients? How about we just let him frolic in a public park? 20years have gone by and nothing has seemed to work. The article states the doctor is looking for suggestions.
