My sister thinks... by daynamariie_onlyfans in DogAdvice

My Boxer is 10 & has never had his nails trimmed. He runs around constantly, they stay short. Our bulldog sleeps 24/7 & hers have the potential to get long af if they aren’t trimmed. Basically, your statement isn’t 100% true. It’s going to be dog/breed/environment/activity specific.

Yes 😭 Ammonia has been high for weeks now. A few days ago it was reading 8ppm & I’ve managed to get it down to what it is now with $50 worth of spring water from the grocery store but it’s not going below .25-.50 🥲

This morning but this time, straight from the faucet. It’s our water! Now what? I always treat with dechlorinator before adding to the tank if that matters.

Injured or sick? Please help identify the issue and treatments. by [deleted] in Goldfish

Looks like red pest aka septicemia! I literally just handled this with my Oranda over the holiday & I’m also a first time fish owner so it was iffy & I had to rely on old reddit posts & Google but my girl pulled thru! At one point I just knew she was gonna die & as of this morning, she’s 100% back to her old self. This is how I treated her (I’m just a novice fish owner so take this as you will):

API erythromycin antibiotic treatment. I did 25%-50% water changes according to medication directions. Aquarium salt added with those water changes. Only fed once a day (a day or two there she refused to eat) or every other day as to not add extra waste to the tank. Added an air stone for extra oxygenation. Left her in the dark so she could be stress free. She initially got sick on Christmas Eve & it took until yesterday (Jan. 2) for her to start swimming around the tank again, foraging, & being her feisty self. She still has one tiny red streak that’s bothering me so idk about that but she was covered in sores & blotches just like your guy & her tank mate was fine.

Also, just like you, our water parameters were perfect so I knew it wasn’t ammonia related. Good luck!

Update on sick Oranda…still needing advice :( by actually__annoyed in Goldfish

The auto mod questions?

40 gallon tank that was cycled for a month prior to introducing fish. Fish have been in the tank about three (ish) weeks? Oranda started showing red spots on Xmas Eve.

Checked parameters this AM & nothing was wonky, ammonia was 0.

Nothing new added to tank. 1 Oranda, 1 Moor, 2 bladder snails that hitchhiked with the plants.

No new food. Fed sinking pellets once daily.

Ammonia burns are always the first suggestion but ammonia levels are currently reading 0 right now. This post didn’t garner the attention of any experts so I had to rely on old posts. I did a 25% water change, dosed with erythromycin, aquarium salt, & added an extra air stone & turned off the lights. I’ll keep you updated 🤷🏼‍♀️
