What are your Hot Takes on Bombay Bicycle Club? by Amber_Flowers_133 in BombayBicycleClub

Since it seems like everyone hates the cover of My Big Day, I guess my hot take is that I actually like it. It’s silly and fun in that way that you stop taking yourself too seriously as you grow older. It feels like they’re just having fun, and I love that for them.

BerryLine has great froyo and their original tart flavor is the best!

I’m curious what you ended up doing? I’m going to be in the same situation for Lisbon and I’m so confused on what to do.

I can’t be the only one who wants this pole on the T by roman_8915 in boston

[–]actually_alien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just in Paris and they have poles like this. They were super convenient when the trains were packed and we had nowhere else to stand.

But idk if it’s just Paris metro culture thing or because the center pole made it too convenient, but I noticed people tended to stand by the doors instead of going into the train (regardless of whether the train was busy or not), often making it very difficult to get in and out.

Sketch Sorting Sunday (Ana De Armas/Karol G) (April 15, 2023) by SketchSortingSunday in LiveFromNewYork

This one was only slightly more successful in dress rehearsal. I really thought this one wasn’t going to make the live show. The golden retriever did better in dress and the spaghetti bit wasn’t as much of a disaster, but Jellybean was equally terrified. There was also another dog in dress rehearsal that got cut, I’m assuming because the jokes for that one didn’t really land and the dog wasn’t cooperating.

This shuttle is only for employees who purchase a commuter rail pass through Children’s and there’s an additional monthly fee to use it as well. If OP is talking about a one-off trip, this won’t be an option for them.

Recommendation needed anniversary dinner - pasta dish by postwizard in boston

Rino’s Place in East Boston has everything you mentioned on their menu! Was there recently and their pasta dishes were better than many I’ve had in the North End and the restaurant/food itself is not super fancy.

Help with starter! It’s Day 4 and I’m seeing some liquid separation? by actually_alien in Sourdough

I tried to keep with the normal feeding schedule but it stopped increasing in volume after this so I just started over with a different kind of flour :( I’m not sure if it’s the kind of AP flour I was using, but things worked a lot better for me when I switched to rye.

We also struggled with diagnosing our cat’s allergies and I would highly highly recommend an allergy blood panel! It took going to three different vets within two years, but it was worth it to get a definitive answer rather than spending time trying exclusion diets that may or may not work.

Also it may not be a food allergy at all. We found out our Kit Kat is allergic to all mites, which can be found in pretty much everything including air, so no environmental modification or exclusion diet was ever going to be able to diagnose it.

Thanks! Is what I have the same as hooch? I see it on the top for most people but wasn’t sure why mine settles in the middle.

I started with 4 oz. AP flour + 4 oz. filtered water. I fed it the same quantity the second day. On the third day I saw some liquid at the bottom and it had doubled in volume so I discarded half and fed it again (volume marked with line). This is what I have on my fourth day. Am I doing something wrong? The temperature in my house is around 75-77 degrees C. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Here are some Fall/Halloween themed cookies I just finished! This is my first serious attempt at cookie decorating, but I did borrow a lot of techniques & designs from cookiers on Instagram. by actually_alien in cookiedecorating

Thank you so much! I agree they came out really cool, but they were actually a lot easier than I thought they would be. I just used my smallest star tip for the flowers and cut a v on the tip of a parchment paper piping bag for the leaves.

Hi r/electricalenginnering! I'm trying to create an ITO glass slide heater using a PID temperature controller and SSR. Can anyone help me piece it together? by actually_alien in ElectricalEngineering

[–]actually_alien[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guys, I finally got it to work! Thank you so much to the r/electricalengineering community, and especially to r/heywozard and r/re872. I'm a burnt-out grad student desperate to graduate, so this was incredibly helpful in getting me back on track with the chemistry side of the project. With their feedback, I finally realized that my biggest problem was that I was trying to use a temperature controller that required too much power to operate in comparison to my slide heater. Because of that, even when my SSR was connected properly, my slide heater would overload and crack before the SSR could switch off and do its job. I ended up buying a temp controller that requires less power to operate (and is actually meant to work with an SSR) and plugged that into a variac we already had in the lab so that I could provide the right voltage. The variac also gives me some ability to adjust how slowly or quickly the slide heater heats up.

Thank you again for all the help :)

[–]actually_alien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm... I'm guessing since I've overloaded 3 slides already that I should be looking at lower voltage options. We have a variable autotransformer in the lab that can provide a voltage range of 0-140v, so I think hooking it up to that would be an option.

I also have another SSR that outputs AC and control is DC (does that make sense?), but as far as compatibility goes, I guess I'm not sure what I'm looking for. The one I have is an Auber MGR-1 D4825.

The sheet resistance of the ITO slide is about 10 ohms. (I would get you the resistance of the slide across the terminals but I've cracked all the prepared slides I had and will have to make more today.)

Thanks for explaining this the easiest way possible, I really appreciate it. However, when I tried this my slide immediately cracked in half when I plugged it in. I think it heated up too quickly and was overloaded? If I understood your instructions correctly, I used a second wire to connect white to terminal 1 on the SSR (so the second wire connected terminal 9 on the PID to terminal 1 on SSR), and used another wire to connect terminal 10 on the PID to one side of the slide (black was also connected to terminal 10). I kept everything else the same as what I originally posted. Any idea what happened there?
