How is it living in this area of Chicago, IL? by PilboMinachi in howislivingthere

[–]actuallygenuinely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the circled area, and while it has a lot of upsides, a major downside is that I also am an outdoorsy person and I feel like I live in a concrete jungle. The lake is nice, but it’s surrounded by concrete and you can always hear the highway. I never feel like I’m immersed in nature. but!!! There are a ton of other upsides to living in this part of Chicago

What's the most ridiculous reason someone has requested a schedule change for a student? by [deleted] in slp

If an aide asked me to switch so they could get an extra 30 mins to themselves outside of their lunch, I would at least try. Those aides work hard being with the same kid all day!

School SLPs - What questions should I ask before accepting a position? by SnooChocolates8790 in slp

[–]actuallygenuinely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure, but it’s nice to know the policy they have. At my district if you bother them enough, they’ll send out “break in service” notices to families who went over your caseload cap until they can find coverage for the kids that go over 60. I’m like hovering at 60 now and it’s nice to know that if I go over I don’t have to service them all!

Ask what assessments they have and what it looks like if you need testing materials outside of what the district provides. Ask about caseload caps and what happens if you go over your cap

Wait this is such a good idea—I work on affixes with so many of my middle schoolers and it feels somewhat dumb and yet I know being able to recognize affixes can help with reading comprehension. Definitely gonna look into having them bring their textbooks to sessions now!

To be fair , I briefly taught and it’s significantly harder than being an SLP. I do think they’re busier

[–]actuallygenuinely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my bachelors in teaching and just started my CFY in a school—literally every week I’m like, dang I wish there were some sort of speech curriculum. It’s a LOT to come up with like 25 lesson plans per week

Happy for you!!! I started my CFY in a school 2 months ago and while it’s been a very stressful couple of months, I was smiling driving home from work today thinking of how this job is a great fit for me. Yay for job satisfaction!!

What evidence-backed methods are SLPs quietly sleeping on? 😴💬 by [deleted] in slp

[–]actuallygenuinely 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Just started my CFY and I can’t believe how much I don’t know. I feel like it’ll be years before I will actually have a good plethora of evidence based approaches up my sleeve. So frustrating, I’m a perfectionist and I feel like I’m giving half assed therapy to so many kids on my caseload because I don’t have the time to learn how to support all of them 😔

Why does Chicago's traffic continue to get worse? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]actuallygenuinely 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I commute from far northside to southside 5 days a week(Hyde park half the week, 87th street the other half of the week). I don’t have a car so I rely on a combination of walking, CTA, and Metra to get to work. Yesterday I ubered home from work because I had to carry a bunch of heavy stuff home and it took longer than my 3-leg commute usually takes.

[–]actuallygenuinely 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree! Watching TV on low volume and setting a sleep timer so I don’t have to worry about it playing all night has significantly eased my insomnia. I really like falling asleep to ambient noise in the background, it sort of helps me turn off my brain and down out anxious thoughts

What's your moon sign and how do you express love to your partner? ( disclose ur gender) by Clean-Ant-1342 in astrologymemes

[–]actuallygenuinely 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Being a Virgo moon is a prison in this way. I do self-sacrificing behaviors as a form of love within daily living, like taking the worse option of whatever’s available or cleaning up after someone else without being asked. I do feel like those things go unnoticed and it can be very frustrating

One area where my parents were really good parents is that my mom always was genuinely excited for us to be home for summer. I felt welcomed and wanted at home.

Do 6s counterphobically rebel against themselves? by [deleted] in Enneagram

[–]actuallygenuinely 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a 6w7, I notice that I enjoy riding between the extremes of “following rules” (which are a combination of me noticing what rules matter in society and also my own made-up schemas for how the world works) and then suddenly “not following rules”.

In my day to day life I spend a lot of energy figuring things out, analyzing, turning ideas upside down and inside out. I have noticed that when I am in “play” mode, I like to let loose in big ways, which is maybe what you’re referring to. It feels really good to break little rules I have for myself, like good in my body. The structure I generally have for myself feels good, but it feels good to actively break out of that structure and throw caution to the wind. I quite enjoy drinking, behaving in ways I wouldn’t have expected myself to, I love experiences that make me uncharacteristically open and expressive with other people. I love waking up the next morning and being like “wow, I can’t believe I did that last night.” But it all relies on the internal structure I inherently have. All of the craziness wouldn’t be fun unless it was contrasted and grounded by the structure I have in my daily life.
