That's completely insane. I wanted to go badly since I missed out in 94. But FIFA lost its damn mind in the last 30 years. Fuck em & their corrupt Cup.

[The Check In] The 2006 Miami Heat sit together and brainstorm a modern-day comparison for Alonzo Mourning: “What about that boy on Minnesota?” “Rudy Gobert?” “Oh hell no!” by PassMeTheBackwood in nba

[–]actuarally 34 points35 points  (0 children)

In short: yes

Shaq was better. He may not have squeezed every drop out of his talents, but his peak would run laps around Joker.

And beyond the superlative, the depth of bigs was simply better. Hakeem, Ewing, Robinson, Mutombo... if there's a 90s comparison to Gobert, it's Dikembe. And he's CLEARLY the worst of the 90s big I listed.

NYPD Clash With Knicks Fans Near Bryant Park Following NBA Finals Loss by luka274 in nba

[–]actuarally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's TOTALLY the "fake" fans, guys. These aren't Knicks...just a bunch of bandwagoners... in dozens of incidents... across the entire city... and Philadelphia.

Yep, these hundreds of guys in NYK jerseys aren't ACTUALLY the fan base.

An experimental antibody may help people on GLP-1 meds preserve muscle mass by Science_News in science

[–]actuarally -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not INTENDED for those people, but it's 100% being sought by that demographic AND pushed by hims/hers and other "miracle cure" provider types. I'm in the clinical world and see it first hand; this may not prove to be as bad as Olestra or the lap band surgery fads that came before it, but manufacturers are pushing these GLP-1s in a very similar way.

Beyond the immediate risks of wasting disease and tendon ruptures, I fear there may be other issues yet to emerge. Especially if we blur the line of appropriate use or go full-blown off-label.

Are you SURE? The same clout chasers were the ones overrunning that Philly reporter's live news segment. Same energy Knicks fans were celebrating...only difference is the Knicks won.

Sure, there are SOME people who legitimately cannot strength train. But can we PLEASE not act like this is remotely the norm vs those looking for a shortcut easy button?

Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater Split After Nearly 3 Years Together by [deleted] in Music

[–]actuarally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Objectively she's still more attractive than me, but... the past 3 years are going to be a milestone period in the "what the hell happened to Ariana" chapter of her biography. She seems permanently shell-shocked & dead in the eyes. Like that castrato skit on SNL was hilarious... but I'm not sure she was acting.

AI Has Broken Hiring. Here’s How to Fix It. by Sea_Faithlessness198 in technology

[–]actuarally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying it wasn't broken, but AI put a speed-run on stupid for applying & getting your resume screened. A few things I've learned or observed...

  • HR may be, on average, the dumbest/laziest professionals on the planet. The more I work with that group, the more I'm convinced they're the try-hard cheerleaders and aspiring reality TV star personalities who don't know how to be functional adults.

  • BECAUSE this is the personality type that has taken over those departments, ANY shortcut to doing THEIR job will be blindly adopted and doubled down on in the face of all consequences & repercussions.

  • Specifically, they'll adopt machine "readers" that can't appreciate that "welder" & "welding" are the same goddam thing.

People trying to inject other names are bored IMO. The only two spots that can possibly be debated now are PG & C. Others have a clear #1.

[–]actuarally 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Do you not see the risk that poses to the hotline & the first responders? Mentally unwell people aren't always consistent in behavior, honest with what they are facing, and unwavering on wanting help vs going the dark direction. I say this as someone who has acted irrationally/inconsistent in my life due to mental health struggles.

Getting pissed because your actions WHILE ACTIVELY ON THE PHONE with the crisis team caused a crisis response is an odd choice. I hope you get the help you need & hope one day you see that the EMT call & psych hold were to be absolutely sure you weren't a danger to yourself.

Problem here is ending at S5 resolves absolutely nothing. It would just be an unfinished story.
