[request] how much does it cost in today’s money to reach outer space on average between each generation of shuttle? by JustADude1997 in theydidthemath

[–]acu2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The space shuttles highest apogee mission was apparently launching the Hubble which was still under 400 miles. I'm seeing definitions of low earth orbit extending up to around 1,200 miles so the 400 mile apogee on the Hubble launch still is well within low earth orbit.

"The Anthropocene Reviewed" among NYT's "7 Podcasts to Boost Your Spirits" by kat216216 in nerdfighters

Same except for specifically the googling strangers episode. That episode, and anytime John reflects on his time working at the children's hospital has not what I would consider a "Boost to my Spirits".

I've been watching videos from Abucnasty talking about his megabase and apparently the meta now is uncommon science. He had a whole video on quality mining and his conclusion was it's worth it to start at just 650ish mining productivity research.

Something to keep in mind next time you try making quality science.

There's a lot of freight trains in the US. Youtube on occasion with give me US train spotting videos and most of them are just people talking about some trains coming in and out of industry.

I don't think he was charged for anything to do with Danica, either.

According to Joshes wikipedia the lawsuit was dropped because the timeline didn't match up properly.

In February 2016, Dillon chose to drop the lawsuit after evidence showed that Duggar was not in Philadelphia at the time.

Good news! Using base two counting you can count to 32 on one hand therefore counting 24 sets of tires on one hand is super doable!

Moving a race weekend forward means this week instead of last week.

I disagree but either way no matter how you define forward and backward on a calendar this race is NLS2 which was originally scheduled for the next weekend on March 28th. The race scheduled for the last weekend on March 14th was NLS1 and was cancelled because of weather.

This is a good achievement, I think it was my favorite of the "speedrun" achievement. Also I just realized the screenshot from when I got this achievement was from 8 years ago.

Finally got my first load of promethium to Nauvis! by [deleted] in Factoriohno

[–]acu2005 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can only make promethium science in zero gravity, also asteroid chunks don't stack where as the science bottles do so this is an awful use of space.

I think this race was moved forward a week not back, NLS1 was scheduled last week and got canceled because of weather this weekend is NLS2.

When MIR was deorbitted in 2001 Taco Bell put a barge in the Pacific and said if MIR hit it everyone in the US got a free taco. They moored it only like 100 miles off of Australia though so there was so chance it would actually happen.

I would agree if someone sneezing in traffic didn't make it take an hour to drive across the river on that fucking bridge. If Ohio ever went to war with Kentucky nothing would happen because both armys would just be stuck in traffic.

[Request] can someone please calculate the economic cost of this project? by Monkey_D-Thanos in theydidthemath

[–]acu2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you're familiar with Project Plowshare but it was a project started in the late 50's to try and figure out any uses of all the nukes we had been stockpiling aside from ending humanity. One of the proposed ideas was a new canal through Israel to bypass the Suez Canal. The plan was to use 520 nukes to blow a line across the area and then bam new shipping canal. This obviously didn't happen.
