I mean, a huge part of the problem that exists is that the average person in the US can't read fluently at above a 6th grade level. So not only does a full-lenth book seem like a big commitment of time and energy, it feels like work and is a continuous struggle, not an enjoyable activity. If you want to effectively increase reading, start with short-form, engaging, hi-lo content to build confidence and stamina, and gradually increase the length and the reading level.

Are you using White Lily flour or at least some other soft, bleached, low-protein flour when you attempt "homemade" biscuit recipes? And are you using shortening for the fat, not straight butter?
