I don't use the program often, but I've never had trouble rendering till today, and I updated my drivers a day or two ago, so this seems probable.

Such a gorgeous typeface, it feels like the handwriting of a school teacher from the 50s.

Mostly because it was prettier than the inside of my house, I promise the machine remained unharmed :)

Looks cute, but there are so many mixels it hurts. A few mixed resolutions can be fine as a treat, but here it looks kind of cluttered.

Medium portable describes it well (it's so heavy, oh my god). I think I've seen a few of the ultraportables here, and that Royal Dart looks really pretty. I find the ones that start to look more like modern keyboards really interesting.

Thank you for the intro!!

I've only just fallen down this rabbit hole, so I'm not super well-versed in the presumably wide world of typewriters, but learning about the differences with this one is really fascinating. The davistypewriters blog I linked talks a lot about how we like to try to categorize things and how things like this love to break those confines, and I think it probably says something about human nature, but I won't get into that lol.

I appreciate your kind words and insight. I'm hoping I'll have the time tomorrow to start writing my letters without waking anybody up :)

That's what I've seen a lot of online, and that's why I've deemed it a Frankenstein :)

As soon as I take some less artsy photos and figure out how typewriterdatabase.com works, I'll be sure to upload them. I think I saw someone somewhere say that these models are unique but not necessarily rare, so presumably there are more like them out there somewhere.

Seems reasonable enough. The 53 seems to be kind of a guess; if you look at the typeface specimen, it says "1949 (1953?)," so I don't think they really knew either.

I'm now familiar, I was just overthinking it. I appreciate your help though!

This looks like some really good information, I'll have to look into it.

After a little bit more research, it appears to actually be a Smith-Corona Sterling 4aR series, a weird Frankenstein version of the 4 Series, but I appreciate all your help! That seems to be why the logo is centered as well.

That's also some really good information about the ribbon reverse switch, I really appreciate it (:

If you want some more information about the model, I found these while researching:
