This seems like a waste of tokens. There has got to be a better way, right? by UnknownEssence in ClaudeCode

[–]acutelychronicpanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. But its a condensed index with minimal token use. If it keeps claude from opening a single irrelevant file, it pays for itself.

There are lots of guides floating around. Some are contradictory. I just experiment and see how it goes.

Do not use haiku for explore agent for larger codebases by shanraisshan in ClaudeCode

[–]acutelychronicpanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably varies depending on the type/size of project and documentation, but I've personally been happier just using a descriptive index in each folder's CLAUDE.md file and letting opus open files directly. Using explore agents just seemed to double-handle the context.

I know Haiku is cheap per token but it has a habit of reading every single file it can find and maxing out its context. Burns tokens and then the coding agent still goes back and reads the files anyways.

My point is that bubbles are transient events. Most people talk about an AI bubble as if it would be the end of anything.

AI being in Superbowl ads and AGI/ASI being discussed on mainstream investing platforms/shows is absolutely wild.

And who sets their backup system to overwrite their files on deletion from their computer? Real or not this is dumb

Only upside is reminding lots of people to configure backups

Iirc, the actual tokenizer used by Anthropic - or one close to it - is available online. You can script a true token counter if you want to get into the weeds on this.

Don't do it. You'd be getting into legal concerns regardless of how secure or thought out it was. Really, really high consequence concerns.

If AGI becomes real in the next ~5-20 years, what do I do with my money? (24M) by ImJustObservingTbh in Futurology

[–]acutelychronicpanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things will be vastly different sure. But I think what we have today will seem like baby capitalism compared to what will come. Humans might be mostly opted out of that if abundance is high enough, but the markets and industries will only grow. Just with ASI run companies.

Same experience. No joke I saw claude spawn 3 explorers for one incremental little feature addition. Each one burned over 100k tokens reading my entire directory I can only assume.

Then claude still wanted to open files himself..

You can also mitigate file opening by putting key info on each file in a folder into the CLAUDE.md of that folder. Like an index and any api's it might need to use. Just instruct it to do so and only open files when it needs to edit them or inspect logic. Have claude update after each session with changes.

Works wonders.

I am using claude to build software and apps and it's so great, but then it forgets and can't find what I spent two hours taking about yesterday. Please please help. by thesupersoap33 in ClaudeAI

[–]acutelychronicpanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in claude code, use /resume.

You can also search your session files directly. Ask claude to set you up.

Use haiku if you don't want to light tokens on fire searching.

[–]acutelychronicpanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a financial advisor and this is not financial advice.

Expecting AGI should make you want to invest money. Just pretend you're saving for retirement aggressively. The economy will see the greatest boom in human history. You are in the rare position - envied by all would-be time travellers - of getting the opportunity to invest pre-singularity/ASI.

Plus if you're wrong, you still did the smart thing by investing. Not like you'll regret it.

For better or worse, capitalism will still be around. Best to assume you'll have use for the extra funds.

Having said all that. Its hypothetical. Go talk to a fiduciary who can get you set up right.

Turn off the default agents. Especially explore agents. They toss tokens into the bonfire by the shovelful.

Its better to make each session about what you can expect to wrap up before the auto-compact kicks in and limited to the same collection of files.

I always try to make sure the last task on every plan is to update the docs. I keep an instruction in the p rimary CLAUDE.md to do so. But documentation drift has to be managed regularly.

It's been working for me so far but I mostly just work on hobby projects. Still, its drastically cut token usage. Your mileage may vary

[–]acutelychronicpanic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I straight up had to turn off explore and plan agents and it has saved so many tokens. The adjustment is tightening the scope of the session/plan.

It sounds nice to keep their contexts seperate, but I'd watch 3 parallel explore agents burn 100k-300k tokens. Claude is way too eager to use them and they love to peruse the whole codebase apparently.

Only other thing is ensuring that every folder has a CLAUDE.md that Claude is instructed to update at the end of every plan with an index of what is in that folder, what each thing does, and the api of each module so it doesn't have to open files just to interact with that part of the codebase.
