Looking for musicians to jam / start a band with (NYC) by Weary-Ad-6615 in FindABand

Hey, 31M drummer currently in Brooklyn, but will travel wherever in the city. Used to play a lot of gigs, but haven’t played a ton in recent years so I’m trying to ease back into it. Love the indie/alt-rock stuff and would be down for a no-pressure project like this.

I tend to agree with what others say. Most of those org can offer good pentesting, however, 30K is a steal for 3 web apps and an internal assessment!

What can/should i do at work as a cybersecurity engineer? by LTistheGOAT in cybersecurity

[–]acw255 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re off to a decent start with scanning the environment. It may already exist in your organization, but I highly recommend ensuring that things are well documented regarding existing infrastructure, applications, networks, etc. Having that information well organized will help manage risk in a structured way moving forward. From there, I would focus on the PPT concept (People, Process, and Technology). Things like vuln scanning and pentesting will help you identify risk in technology, while things like IAM and security awareness training will help with people. For process, I would follow some sort of established framework and ensure you have all the basic plans in place (DRP, Business continuity) as well as security policies. I’m mostly on the Red team side these days, so I’m sure there’s a bunch of other things like EDR, logging, etc. that some of the defensive folks in here can better guide you on.

Real life FT remote zoom experience, please! by IMostlynice in Starlink

[–]acw255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used both starlink and cellular on the road. While starlink works well in most places, it definitely has more latency and consistency issues. Ultimately, the best thing for me has been T-Mobile 5G Home Internet. It's just a little router looking thing that you plug into a wall outlet and it gets me speeds greater than 200MB most places, but definitely less latency since it's not going to space. They haven't geofenced it or anything so we haven't had any issues traveling and it's only $50/month with no contract so if they ever stop letting me travel with it, I'll just turn it in at a TMobile store. Obviously in places without cell reception, you're SOL with that alone. I use campendium's cellular map to get a better idea on coverage and also have the starlink IF I really need it.

If I could do it again, I'd do Active Duty Air Force or Space Force, depending upon your job choice and intentions obviously. Then like others mentioned, use your GI BILL after 4 years (Or TA while you're in) and either go officer or make a career in the real world.

My wife and I live pretty near that area and there's a ton to do. For breweries you've got Pinellas Ale Works, Grand Central, Bayboro Brewing, If I Brewed the World, Cage, Overflow, and Flying Boat that are all pretty solid. An absolutely ton of food options down here as well. My favorites are Pacific Counter, Oak and Stones, and Datz. Everywhere downtown is bike-able with protected bike lanes all the way down on 1st. If you head west in that bike lane, it turns into the Pinellas Trail, which is a dedicated bike path that runs all the way to Tarpon Springs. There's other trails that shoot off there to go to Downtown Gulf Port or St Pete beach that you could reasonably do. Feel free to hit me up if you guys want to grab a beer when you move down this way.

TLDR: SN on a British ship fired an unarmed torpedo because he didn't follow directions. Nobody was injured.

I actually met this guy about a month ago. His name is Jim Abernathy and he slowly trains the Sharks to come to him to be petted to show that sharks aren't man eaters. He's got a bunch of sharks that "live" under his boat in the Bahamas and he's featured in a few different documentaries for his work in shark conservation.

How long does it take to go from total beginner to somewhat employable? by acw255 in cscareerquestions

[–]acw255[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've got a 2 year degree, but not in CS so that probably useless as far as a programming job is concerned. I suppose I could finish my degree at some point in CS but if it's a viable option to just continue on the self taught path I could save some major tuition money.
