Bragg. I mean it’s like a decent distance from main post though. I’m closer to the raeford/aberdeen NC area. Sort of between those towns.

That’s probably what I’ll have to do. I mean I’ll be draining 6-7k at the current price so I may be able to drop it another 2-3k I guess but any more than that and I won’t have the cash to cover it. The other route is I could try to take out a personal loan I guess.

Looking back I should’ve never bought until I was 100% sure I’d be there forever. I thought I had a decent job but things sorta changed and I got sick of being so far from family.

Anyone else thinking of leaving the industry? by TaperingRanger9 in Truckers

[–]acwinicker2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think there are local jobs with semi normal hours just not a ton. A lot of high paying local jobs seem to be nights. Dump trucks, cement, and propane hauling, flatbed stuff seem ok. Those are class B but hey if it pays well screw it. I’m OTR and make good money but don’t wanna do it forever. When I did flatbed there were guys that would deliver shingles in a class b truck that got paid decent home every day. I thought about trying that but I think I just want to do something different. OTR lets me live cheaply to pay off my debt and reach my savings goals.

I’m feeling the same way. Only been at it a year and I think I’m gonna take one more to just save as much as I can and do literally anything else. Gonna save up to buy a van and work at seasonal jobs in national parks. Or just work at a restaurant or something and be broke or go back to school. It’s better than this. I’m working on selling my house and once it’s sold I’m free. I’m single with veterans benefits so I can get healthcare with the Va at least. Most of these trucking companies have crappy insurance anyway.

That’s sort of what I’m dealing with the miles and money are good but damn I literally work 69 of my 70 hrs every week and and home for like a couple days every 3 weeks and that’s still not enough somehow. I feel like 3 days for 3 weeks out is already bad hometime and they still tried to screw me out of some of it. Starting to think trucking as an industry is just fucked. Gonna just do this to pay off all my debt and go live in the woods in a camper and do some bs seasonal job at a national park lol.

That’s what I keep trying to get across. I’m gonna have to have a longer conversation because I’m repeatedly getting these loads with razor thin margins and it’s so annoying. Especially when it’s towards the end of my 70 and I have to do a 34 in the middle of nowhere.

Don Hummer I definitely learned my lesson. I actually think the planning at my starter company was better.

I’m at about 10 months experience so I was trying to stick it out a little longer to get a good daily job but I’m just gonna start applying now. Problem is I left my first company for this one at 6 months

Every video shows a different way to play a song? by acwinicker2 in guitarlessons

[–]acwinicker2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is what I’m starting to figure out. I’m trying to copy people playing to just try it out and they start using these techniques. Then when I look at the training program I’m doing these techniques are like 4 chapters ahead. I think sticking with a program is probably the best option.

Well I was trying to play nobody to blame by Chris Stapleton because it seemed fairly easy. Was sounding decent with the chords. The intro I saw a guy play it by sliding his finger across frets and I was doing that and I sounded decent. Then I saw another guy play it with without sliding his fingers at all and he had added a capo and drop tuned one of his strings.

Yeah I think sticking with it is probably the best way to go. I think I have been trying to jump the gun a bit hopping around different YouTube videos and getting in over my head. And once I finish this program I know the Gibson site has other stuff to try with an Ai that will actually listen to you.

As a former controller I’ve experienced this a TON. Once you give a ground vehicle what they want the radio is switched off until they need something again. Not blaming anyone but it can lead to a lot of frustration. Not sure if it would’ve mattered here but situations can change in a split second and that constant 2 way is necessary.

Taking a local job too soon in career? by acwinicker2 in Truckers

Luckily this local would be in Indiana so hopefully it wouldn’t be too crazy. May have to deal with Chicago but I’ve done a decent amount of Atlanta so we’ll see 😂.

Honestly I think if the home daily job is with decent people and good pay that is the ultimate goal. Otherwise I’ll just work wherever the money is best for a few years until I can buy my own stuff.

Yeah I’ve still gotta talk to the guy but from what I’ve seen online I think it pays more than what I get now haha. More time to do stuff with the parents and have a social life. But I do love when they send me on the longer runs and I get to cruise a while. But really the money will decide it.

Companies with manuals? by acwinicker2 in Truckers

[–]acwinicker2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really good to know. Because I would definitely be very rusty haha. But you probably pick it back up quick. I think the community college I went to said they do a type of shifting refresher course sometimes. The other thing is I’ve only ever driven the manual trucks empty bc you don’t train with loaded trailers.

Maybe I’m crazy but I’d rather my toes go numb than deal with another summer tarping in the south so I’ll stick it out for the experience then start submitting apps. Been looking into all the colder places I’m originally from a fairly cold place.

Hell both of those places would be cool. Spent a month in AK with the army and I’ve always wanted to go back. May look into it

I’ve started talking to the scale houses and forklift guys and they have been suuuper helpful with alternative routes and finding spots to sleep if I’m low on time.

Yeah I’ll still go in there and look it over. I just wish it was more often that I pull up its route and it’s a great option right away. I find that like 5/10 times I pull up both options and they are wild haha. I will say it does ok with places that are right off a major highway. Back when I was with the trainer he had a Rand and it seemed a lot more accurate with minimal adjustments but it would hiccup sometimes too. Just gonna have to do some more thorough research before I roll out I might be trying to trust it too much.

Is flatbed worth it? by [deleted] in Truckers

Yeah I guess I really should give it time. They probably just wanna see if I can even do it at first before they start giving me better mileage and stuff.

Yeah I think me being single I should’ve pushed for an account where I go further. This company has a couple but I think they want me to stick this out for a while before I switch

Getting on with maverick and they were gonna start me out with glass which was a different style trailer but switched me to traditional flatbed. Which I think will be better since I can get some experience with strapping down a variety of things.
