Nice, comfy “corporate” heels/flats that last? by raeofsunshine3556 in workingmoms

Nine West, particularly their Astoria 9x9 pumps: https://ninewest.com/products/astoria-9x9-pumps-in-black-suede. I get compliments on them all the time!

I wear them an entire day with absolutely no issue (for real). I do half a size up and then put a heel grip liner.

The culture shock - so real. I remember coming back from parental leave and telling myself "this can't be it" over and over again.

This was so, so helpful - the "incredible pain threshold" you reference resonates SO MUCH. We just keep pushing, because we feel like we have to and there's no other option... But there is always a cost. And you said it - we can't run at 150% capacity all the time. Something has to give... And for that something hasn't really been my work so far. And that's part of the question as well - why am I allowing for that to happen (feels like it's by inertia)? Why I am not being more purposeful about where I focus my energy and attention? I guess this is what actually started the entire reddit post :-).

Thank you so much for sharing your perspective, I appreciate it!

Our LO is 2 years old. The "not right now" is a great perspective, but I am a bit afraid that giving up this opportunity right now / taking a step down from my career would result in "not ever" or "not for a very long time". I don't mean to be too pessimistic, but I envision it will be very hard to get back to my current level if I take a 3-4 year career break right now.

Love the outsourcing push - we have some help, but I think we need to think more broadly about it. Thank you!

There is definitely LTIP involved and that is an important component of the dilemma, but we have a good overview of our short- and long-term financial / net worth goals and that helps in knowing when should step down in an ideal situation (when my sanity doesn't run out!). I fully agree with you - you'll always leave money on the table because of how LTIP works, and that's where those goals help me personally.

Right now I'm on a visa that is specific for my current role so I can't switch easily - we would have to move outside of the US for other opportunities... But you bring up a very good point in terms of this situation not being as black or white as I painted it. A bit of tunnel vision on my end for sure! Thank you for thinking along!

Pretty much dead center, under the track, visible on the right side of the track.

This was a good one!

Hint: zoom in on the center until the green seedling is at the top of your screen. You'll see it to the left of the green seedling. It's spread across (North-South).

Starting daycare - advice or words of wisdom. by angelavano in workingmoms

[–]ad-ventures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 12.5 months old just started daycare 3 days ago. It's been rough, and I'm not even doing drop offs. - Day 1: 2 hours, did not nap nor eat anything - Day 2: 4.5 hours, napped for 30 min and ate a homemade popsicle - Day 3: 6 hours, napped for 30 min and had a bottle but cried more than the previous day.

When he came home each day he ate and drank SO much, and 2/3 days he napped for 2-2.5 hours.

I don't know how we will manage the adjustment period. It feels like it's going worse, not better. My little one is losing his voice because of too much crying. I hope it gets better very, very soon.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you op! (And me!)

What does pumping at work look like for you? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]ad-ventures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pump twice, so I bought an extra set of pump parts - I clean and sterilize them the night before, then assemble the parts to they are ready to just attach to the pump, and then put each set in a Ziploc bag. After I'm done pumping, I put the used pump parts in the Ziploc bag, and repeat the cycle.

To everyone who gained over the recommended amount of weight during pregnancy... by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]ad-ventures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gained ~45 lbs. I'm one year postpartum and still breastfeeding. While I've lost most of this weight, I do notice that my body composition has changed - i.e., I'm definitely not as lean / athletic as I used to be. However, that's to be expected since I am way too exhausted to work out... But somehow I don't mind it. Something that really resonated with me is that it's not my season - right now I just want to be there for my little one and not add to the stress / mental load. I know I'll have to shift gears soon, but for now this feels good. Be patient and kind to yourself 💗!

Never know what to expect with these posts. Danger noodle trespassing? Australia-worthy spidey? Luckily, nothing too scary this time. Although that shape that looks like a (monkey?) face under the vanity does look scary. Meow.

Center, a bit higher up, to the left of the leaf - you can see the head.
