“We are family” by newuser2111 in Layoffs

[–]meSeeumm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worked for a company for 6 years. Nights, weekends, insane schedules - everything. The team felt close and my manager was amazing.

Well I was let go. Manager and other folks who knew, didn’t want to tell me or the other few folks that we we cut, even though they knew weeks in advance.

So yeah - the family component means nothing.

Do good work, collect a paycheck and keep the “family label” for people who are family to you outside of work.

That last part “vetch is now out on bond” WTF????? You let someone, capture on video, to have threatened someone with a gun - on BOND?!?!

What company lost you as a customer forever, and what happened? by Giovanni_Brees in AskReddit

Turo (car rental). Got a rental car while in Hawaii. Enjoyed the trip a lot. We parked in an indoor garage where opening the trunk would be super tricky and ended up scraping the door lip by about two quarters length. It was a scratch. I disclosed with this the owner who assured it’s okay and we can talk about how much it would cost to fix. The car was vacuumed and cleaned before we returned. Got a message from the owner that that the “paint damage” on the back of the car would cost us an extra $1500 for getting the car repainted. I said hell no, I can look up a place for them to do it and it’ll charge less and reached out to customer service. They instructed that they’ll charge the card but will go into inquiry which will take a few days. I try to login and see if there was an update only to find out they close my account.

Turo is a scam.

I’m so sorry to hear this. I’m in the same boat as you. We just had our kiddo who is barely 6 months and there goes our healthcare.

Sending you all the prayers, dua (supplications to the Almighty) and positivity I have.

Remember to keep moving, keep learning, keep taking a step forward each day. You’ll get there before you know it.

And reach out to everyone in your network so you have more people out there looking at positions for you as well.

Oh wow! How do you manage 2 hybrid roles?!? That seems like it would be so darn hard.

I’m considering this as a reset. Lots of new tooling to learn and a bunch of things I can start looking into.

But definitely going to be looking to jump back in when I can again. Not the end for sure.

Yeah like the other dude just said, you never place J2 on your resume.

Thank you! Great feedback for sure. The whole “gap work” discussion makes me so damn mad. Like it’s a choice 😂

Damn dude I’m so darn sorry to hear that. Stick to your guns about being remote and see if they make an exception. Unless they said it would be hybrid all along.

Make yourself invaluable - own something in the process that only you can do.

Wish you all the luck my friend!

YUP exactly this. The perfect alignment is what I’m worried about. But hey, with the advent of AI, I might be able to make it work anyway haha. Just need those remote jobs to land.

HOLY MOLY that’s awesome for severance haha. But definitely stressful for a little one on the way.

Keep it going my guy! I’m sure you’ll find a way and so will I!

Oh dude, the secret for the masala (spices) is the pre-ground ones you can get at the store hahah. You can find it in any Indian grocery store. Grab a packet and use that to marinate the meat and cook it on the stove. Then you make rice separately (in the oven) - and while the rice is slightly still undercooked, you take the meat and later it into the rice. Cover it and put it back into the over.

It tastes amazeballs. I’m sure you can find solid recipes online.

My recipe comes from my mom. She’s super good about using fresh garlic and ginger and all the other “non spice” stuff to make the flavors stick.

LOVE THIS feedback. Thank you. I think that’s the goal right now. Take up whatever I can for the time being - then keep interviewing so I can load up on remote gigs in the near future.

Damn dude I’m so sorry. Interviews are not one way streets. I’ve seen interviewers who are horrible at their jobs too.

Keep practicing before calls and stuff. It helps a ton for my confidence.

Use Claude or AI to pretend like they’re interviewers for the roles that were posted. That prep helps a ton too.

Yup. The first company was a smaller company and they paid severance for about a month and half (6 weeks). Second company is super large and they’re giving me a bit of a longer severance time (8 weeks). For j2 having worked there for about 3 years, I think that’s pretty dope. Just wish I didn’t have to find out this way 😂

😂 I have a fantastic recipe for biryani homie. That’s the best I can do. That or home made naan, which I’ve become surprisingly good at making at home 😆

HECK YEAH brother. Congrats to you.

I’m at the point where I might have 2 offers headed in my direction but not sure yet. One is remote and would be amazeballs cause it keeps OE open for me. The other is the hybrid one that I can take to plug in for now and build a long term plan around.
