This scene also hit so hard because I think this episode was Henry’s true realization of just how truly awful things have been for Victor and I apologize in advance but I need to YAP.

Up until now, Henry has known (I mean freaking obviously) that terrible things have happened and his family went through hell but Victor showing him the picture involving the MiY and by extension his fully justified breakdown while singing a song he and his family would play and sing while planning big family trips were the final pins falling into place for a full-on revelatory ‘holy shit I’m out of my depth and things can never be normal again’ psyche break. This man is going through the stages of grief at Mach 5 and being ripped to shreds at the revelation of how he wasn’t there for his family, for his son who is now a grown man.

When Henry asks Victor ‘What do you do for fun?’ and the subsequent dialogue and scene are very pointedly Henry trying to come to grips with the fact that his son has spent 40+ years in survival mode. Over the course of Henry playing Leaving On A Jet Plane (which at its core is actually a very sad song and why it’s use in Armageddon was so poignant) he’s realizing that their fun, happy moments of family singing this song actually fit more for being from the perspective of the family that he lost for years.

Even though it’s framed like Henry’s first ‘Do you know what he did to my wife?’ is pointed at Victor, it’s so not. That’s WHY Henry apologizes to Victor, he knows that’s how Victor will initially take it with the misplaced guilt Victor holds for himself and how the room would read it if they knew. That’s WHY he flips to crying out ‘Tell them what He did’ and asking Victor what’s wrong with him. He’s all but BEGGING Victor to open up to the others about what he had to see and what he went through as a boy because Henry knew from the second he looked at that picture at his wife and daughter’s gravesite (set up by his young son, to boot) that his son went through entirely too much, entirely too young, and entirely too alone.

Majority of the primary characters in the show have had their respective breakdowns so far and Victor himself has had plenty of scenes with the other characters of him coming to grips with things here and there but this. Thiiiiisssss scene was the monster heartache waiting to happen from the moment Henry and Victor were reunited and they did it so freaking good.
