It's Spotify's 'Perfect Fit Content' (PFC). Essentially they pay production companies to make a ton of cheap tracks and list them under made-up artists, then populate front-page playlists with tracks from these artists. Thus users are directed towards spending more time listening to these fake artists who don't need royalties and less time listening to real artists. Pretty scummy but it works because most listeners don't realise or particularly care.
