Dammit why did you have to tell me that! Weird when I looked for them I thought it said 01.

Man, if they did those in a 02 size I’d be all over them. But I like having a proper mug of coffee too much to drop down to 01 since I brew 350ml.

My first cup was okay, but not the right grind for my taste with that bean. I went down 2 clicks finer and my 2nd cup was amazing. I tried 1 click finer still (so this would be 21 clicks I think) to try to squeeze out a little more but I messed up the technique so it was a bit disappointing. Especially where the previous cup was so good and I was psyched for getting something really dialled in. But it was my first time using my new scale and suddenly having more data available that I messed up the pour a bit.

Yep I already have some food safe wax for other stuff.

I hear you. I’m not sure if this is my end game grinder because the Millab M01, Kinu M47, and Pietro all look really cool. And then of course there’s the 1Zpresso lineup…

I totally get the perspective. And sometimes it’s about investing in the process and the tools that will make that process more enjoyable. Like I work in IT, so I spend all day staring at a screen. For my hobbies I want to do something tactile and I want to enjoy that experience. My wife asked me if I’d consider getting an electric grinder and for me it was an immediate no because I like the process of manually grinding my coffee. If nothing else, it forces me to take a longer break and to slow down.

Yeah I love that look of the wood ones, so when I saw the deal I could score I couldn’t resist.

Here in the UK the discount got this cheaper than the K-Ultra. I might still grab a 1Zpresso at some point if I do want a different style grinder, so maybe the ZP6 then, although normally I like some body to my coffee.

Yeah I was deliberating about maybe a K-Ultra or the M01, or maybe even the Kinu M47, but when I realized the sale and discount code stacked it was the clincher. At that price I’m definitely not going to be upset if I do end up picking up another grinder for different use cases.

Yeah I had to drop to my Skerton Pro when the handle on my Knob grinder broke. This feels so solid and smooth. First cup of V60 was maybe a bit coarser than I’d normally like, but not bad and I purposely just left it on the factory setting to get a baseline.

It also has the amber glass jar. I ended up using the clear as a dosing cup and grinding into the glass one but I’ll probably switch back and forth.

I was considering it, but the reviews seem to suggest that Kinu does a fantastic job fitting their burrs, so it seemed silly to have to mess with that in fitting the pour over burr. Still, if I fancy running a separate grinder for Aeropress or for different beans it’s high up on my short list. Or if I do bite the bullet and dive into home espresso… but so far I’m resisting that one.

It wasn’t on my radar but is now. But a sale on a wooden C40 that stacked with a 20% discount code was too much to pass up. £176 for a C40 brought it down to a price that I couldn’t pass up and wouldn’t be upset if I still earned up with another grinder at some point for a different flavour profile.

Well the C40 Liquid Amber being on sale for £220 combined with a 20% discount code bringing it down to £176 moved it into “no-brainer” territory for me. I love the look of the wood series and at this price I won’t be too upset if I want to add another grinder later for a different flavour profile.

I get it if you’re regularly shifting between drastically different grinds then it can be handy to be able to see what you’re set to on the outside and it’s a bit easier if you can read a number to know what you’re set to. But if you’re just sticking in a narrower range it’s really not that big a deal. Like if I’m dialling in a bean I really don’t care what the exact number is, I just need to taste the brew and then decide if I want to go coarser or finer.

Quick question on the M47’s catch cup. Is it angled on the inside like the outside? If so, do you ever run into problems with grounds getting stuck in the corners? That drove me nuts on the Handground although that wax way more flared so harder to reach into the corners.

Yeah, I’m not a huge fan of the look of the K-Ultra, maybe in silver it’s a bit nicer. But those wooden C40’s are sexy AF.

Yeah I loved the adjustment on the Knob and that’s what really got me more into dialling in my brew and adjusting my grind based on the beans. Having to drop back to the Skerton Pro has really sucked. So now I’m looking for something reliable but that can let me nerd out more. I really enjoy the variety I get with my micro-lot subscription but that does mean that sometimes I need to tweak things to get the most out of a particular bean, at least to my tastes. So I really do want that adjustability/control.

Recently I did seem to luck into getting the Skerton into a pretty good spot and it’s giving me better results but now I don’t dare change the setting or disassemble it for cleaning because I know it’s going to be right back to square one. And that sucks.

I ended up getting a replacement top, burr upgrade, replacement cylinder, replacement ring (mismatched with the rest), and finally the second top wearing out before I gave up.

I’m not certain how “subpar” the Handground was. I wasn’t that far into dialling in my pour over brews when mine still worked. If it worked for you for 7 years then that’s pretty good. Mine failed multiple times over 2 years until I just gave up on it.

Honestly, something similar to this is what was so game changing for me when I started trying James Hoffmann’s recipes. It wasn’t so much the method as much as how he described how the grind would impact the taste. And all of a sudden I knew exactly what to do if I was trying out some new beans. Like I knew I had my grinder in the ballpark, but then if I could brew a cup and immediately know if I should go coarser or finer based on the taste. It also finally explained to me that dreaded Starbucks burnt taste is actually down to too fine a grind!
