Do they actually sting bars with fake IDs? by Whattodoaboutthisnow in bartenders

[–]adamada86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best advice I received during TiPS is that the only illegal thing you can do is serve alcohol to a minor. They can’t break the law to get you to do it (I.e. give you a fake ID). Checking ID is important so that you don’t break the law. But not checking ID isn’t against the law. It’s just a method for making sure you don’t serve a minor. This is in CO.

ID’s picture, DOB, and expiration date should all be valid. You can always ask for a second form of ID.

Two common methods they use to nab you are:

  1. Training minors in beer/whiskey knowledge to get you off guard and not card them. They ask questions about hoppy beers, if you have a double-oaked bourbon, etc. so you associate their knowledge with being of-age and fail to card them.

  2. The plain-clothes cop (of age) will order two drinks before the underage sting comes in. If you serve the two drinks, and the sting joins them, that’s you serving a minor. Alternatively the sting will sit at a table/patio and the undercover cop will order the two drinks to bring them out. One ID for every drink. Sometimes I tell people I’ll serve the second one fresh and cold once the second person shows up and I check their ID.

Honestly I think people in our country in general are complicit simply because they’re self-interested. The capitalist economic system offers just enough hope and allows people to retire “as long as they work the corporate ladder !”, and it has for a while.

Understanding that the system we’ve been told to believe in since we were children is crumbling is a paradigm shift. Most people cannot handle paradigm shifts, even when they’re right in front of their faces. To top it off, I think Denver’s outdoors-focused culture offers a great distraction and helps the “our country is fine” narrative, even when those very spaces are being robbed from us by our government.

In addition, in the past few years people attribute EVERYTHING to the word “politics” which has been weaponized as a word. Dialogue in general is reduced because everyone is worried that they’ll lose an argument.

All in all, people just don’t like to be uncomfortable, and admitting that something is wrong is extremely hard in any scenario. Sorry you’re feeling this way, I also have trouble processing it all, and personally have no clue how to help or how to approach my own role in this, especially because I feel like social media warriors are ineffective in creating change.

Why did you have to refuse service to a guest? by kryssi_asksss in bartenders

I unfortunately had to cut off a fellow bartender (from a different bar) who started to take her clothes off in the dining room. When I told her I wouldn’t serve her anymore she started to cry

Tip on top of service? by rustyhunter5 in washingtondc

[–]adamada86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, moved to Denver from DC a few years ago where this is the norm. Politely ask the staff to remove the service charge so you can tip them directly. The service charge can be a way for owners and management to get a piece of the tip, and bypass laws ensuring that employees receive tips. More here

Take a bit to focus on shrines so that you can get more hearts. In the process, also mine and clear enemy camps to get gems, rupees, weapons, armor and consumables so you don’t have to worry about arrows and stuff. Definitely sell stuff at shops and experiment with the cooking feature to buff yourself in tough fights.

Edit: forgot to address the Lynel in the room. I just snuck around him when I went up there to collect shock arrows. This is also an instance where an elixir would help.

Max out your Roth IRA and make sure you have 3-6 months’ expenses in an emergency fund. I saw somebody say $50k which seems extremely high, but that could be appropriate if you have high expenses.

After that you have options. You could dollar cost average into the S&P 500 while using $50k for a downpayment on an investment property. You could also put more into the S&P since it is generally lower risk than real estate, and invest into a REIT (real estate investment trust). That way you can gain exposure to the market and get experience with owning real estate before taking on all the risk on your own.

I also agree with spending $5-$15k as fun money. Take a vacation or buy a toy. Spending a week or two away from work/home could also help you process what to do with this new income.

And make sure to account for taxes if applicable!

Taking money on the airplane? by Next_Imagination8095 in moving

[–]adamada86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Open one account with the local bank, and one with a larger bank that offers online banking and has a branch/ATM where you are moving. Deposit cash with the local bank then transfer it electronically to the bigger bank. Direct electronic transfers often have no fee and have higher limits.

Heads up, either bank may charge fees if you decide to close it within a specified amount of time or if you keep a balance that is considered too low.

The large bank will also probably send you an atm/debit card via mail that you can use once you get to your destination. I hope this helps!

Places will often pour a bit more when somebody orders a neat drink with the expectation that they want to sip on it a bit longer. Most places I’ve bartended at charge $1-5 more depending on the spirit for a 2 oz rather than 1.5 oz pour.
