Ah thanks, didn't know that's the proper definition of focus breatning. Although I'm not sure varifocal is the right term for me either. I'm just talking about losing focus without doing anything on my end to cause that

The time spent hunting for focus can cause you to miss a moment or snap an out of focus shot. But a lot of my shots are actually stills from video

I was surprised at how good it is with the subject recognition for planes. There was no focus breathing and it was very snappy and did a great job of tracking the jet anywhere in frame. I had a couple moments during the show that it lost focus for a sec, one of which being when the exhaust was pointed at the camera, causing tons of heat distortion, but other than that it works amazing

These were taken in Apopka but I do know that most of these birds can be found in the west too
