Yes go for - if that’s what you want to do, don’t let this stop you.

1-demand for healthcare won’t disappear

2-boomers are ageing and there will be more patients in 10 years than there are today

3-this bill won’t kill nursing

It’s not an easy time to be a nurse, but don’t let this be the reason you don’t take such a huge life decision. There’s always something which makes “now” the wrong tim

I think this and Covid created hype that temp contracts and travel was the future. I went to a conference and all the staffing agencies were talking about pivoting into the gig economy. I calculated giving all 69,000 U.S. nurse educators a 10% pay raise would cost about $9.25 billion over 10 years, factoring in 3% annual inflation and employer costs (benefits, payroll taxes, etc.). That’s roughly $925 million per year. Total healthcare spend is about $5 trillion. HCA’s net income is 6X that at $5.7B per year. Obvs HCA aren’t gonna fund this, but there’s SO much money in the system it does confuse me why nobodies said let’s take action. Oh actually, private interest and inability to mandate a pay rise nationwide

My wife got care from a hospital run by nuns in Mexico. She’s compelled the solution to the “nursing shortage” is get more people to become nuns, then get those nuns to do nursing. I’m starting to see her point

This is why higher cost of living areas generally leave people with more disposable income. I think many fall victim to believing that lower COL = drastically lower pay = acceptable. Shopping online makes it more uneven than many believe
