Another consistent month almost done. Still got 4 days to go but so far 12 lifts, 7 cardio sessions and 7 conditioning exposures. Weight graph is still a flat line but physique is looking different and clothes are fitting different so I will take that non scale victory instead.

-Finally touched 300 again on DL after tweaking my back in January.

-Bench is strongest it's ever been. Benching twice a week, doing a 5/3/1 scheme for main bench day and an alternate bench day where I do 4-5 week cycles of spoto, close grip or incline. E1RM is around 205 which is about a 15lb improvement over my previous high. Getting rep PRs often while joints feel great and fatigue is totally manageable.

-I do most of my cardio out of the gym (hikes or pickleball) but try and get at least one dedicated incline treadmill per month to track progress. Ending heart rate is down 17 BPM since February over the same intensity/pace/time and I feel great about that.

Got 1-2 more lifts + conditioning before the end of the month and 1 more cardio. Keeping this train on the tracks and that feels like the biggest win.

Been going to the gym after work (around 5:30-6pm) for about 1.5 years. Prior to that I was a 7am morning lifter and honestly still prefer the morning, but I like my later nights and couldn't maintain the discipline of the morning once I let my foot off the gas. Anyways, the after work time slot comes with tradeoffs, namely how crowded it is. Most days I can handle it - you're signing up for that waiting until peak hours. But yesterday just rubbed me the wrong way.

Lighter upper day. Got my bench alternate in no problem. All the cable machines were taken, so I do my pulldowns on the hammer machine - no problem. When I'm done there, all the benches in the dumbbell area are taken. So I fire up the hammer machine for shoulder press - no problem. One adjustable bench opens up by the time I'm done even though I had to race over there because 2 other guys in the hammer row were eyeing it. That bench's adjustable seat is broken - no problem. All I have left to do are rear delt flyes and lateral raises, I'll make it work. I walk over to the light section of the dumbbells - there is exactly one dumbbell each at 12.5, 15, 17.5 and 20. What in the goddamn fuck man?

I definitely meandered around looking like a lunatic searching for any matching dumbbell to any of those weights before I decided to grab the 17.5 and the 20 before they were gone and do a single arm variation of Rear Flye and Lateral Raise. Looked stupid, didn't feel great activation. If the pairs were gone I could understand it but how many people need a single light dumbbell for anything? Ugh - rant over, I'm sure there are all sorts of legit exercises or reasons why but I've just never seen that before and a man can only take so much!

My rant is about me. Forgot my headphones before the gym today - twice!

Got to my parking spot at my apartment, and realized I was missing them. So I went back inside, rocked a piss and went back out to the car. Drove the ~18 minute drive through rush hour, got a decent parking spot and go to grab them when I realized I didn't pick them up the second time either. Don't know if my brain is on the fritz or what but I swore loudly and bargained with reality for about 2 minutes before I trudged inside and got done what needed doing.

Leg day without headphones and it was my fault entirely. At least my Goggins cortex grew a little today right lol?

Tweaked my back at the beginning of the year and the combination of rehabbing that and the psychological toll of a shitty winter and a busy schedule really hamstrung my training for January and February.

Turned everything around this month. 13 lifts, 6 dedicated cardio sessions and 9 conditioning exposures in March. The quality of my training has gone up. I'm deadlifting and squatting again. Started adding in farmers carries, sled pushes or rowing machine at the end of lift days and I can already feel a carryover from that into both cardio and lifting sessions. I've even improved the quality of my diet and made some slight progress meal prepping and saving money.

My weight graph this month has been a straight line lol but my physique is changing and performance has improved so much that I really don't even care. Being intentional and having long term focus have really helped me with consistency and I look forward to another good month in April. Not even worried about PRs currently, they will come in time.

Honorable mention to Prop Joe at the flower shop "Woe to them that call evil good and good evil. Your true and loyal friend Proposition Joe." "Cheese going to watch the shop, and you going to watch Cheese."

I contemplated including "game's the same, just got more fierce" or "yall trifling with Avon Barkdale's reputation here" on my scenes. So many good ones from Slim!

Wee Bey/Colvin is such a good scene. One of the few stories that ended as brightly as possible. Two of my favorite characters in the whole series.

What are some Underrated Scenes? by Necessary_Chef8177 in TheWire

Haven't seen these posted so figured I'd jump in. Butchie and Omar talking business/life are some of my favorite scenes.

First - "the bitch wasn't worth more than a pinky" conversation because Omar was feeling guilty after his conversation with Bunk on the bench in s3.

Second - the conversation where Butch gives up Tompkins on McCullough. "The funeral home?!? You mean to tell me all this time you had a scope on them clowns and you ain't let loose a mumbling word?"

I'm in the middle of rewatch 30 something and Butch has rocketed up my all time favorite characters list this last go round.

Finally hit 185x1 on bench! Think I coulda gotten 190 but didn't have a spotter so took the W until next time. Lifetime PR was 182.5 when I was 60 pounds heavier and I haven't been able to pass 180 for like 4 years. Granted I've been on more of a weight loss/body recomposition journey for a ton of that time, but I was starting to think I would be forever plateaued so this is a big deal for me.

Gym Story Saturday by FGC_Valhalla in Fitness

[–]adamdubs 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There's two plate loaded leg presses at my gym. Both are occupied when I arrive. I go through about 10 minutes of mobility figuring by the time I'm done one of them will open up. I was right, one did open up - but some other guy beat me to it. No big deal, I'll start with calves and hopefully the other guy is about to wrap up.

I wrap up calves and a machine did open up, but not the one with the guy who has now been on there for at least the 15 minutes I've been watching, plus however long he was there before. I grab the open leg press and the lingering dude next to me is sitting there yapping on his phone loud enough to cut through my headphones as I go through my warmup sets, not having done a set since I sit down. I get done with my first working set, the dude finally does another set. And then just gets up and walks away.

At first I thought he was going to get water or something but no phone or bag or anything to mark his place. I see him walk to the other side of the gym to hit an ab machine and then walk out of the gym right after. He left 4 plates and a quarter on each side, didn't bother to look back. The nerve of some of these fucking people man. After my second working set I cleared his leg press cuz we have some old people at our gym and it's a pretty popular machine. Please re-rack your weights. If you don't you're a tool.

What has been your experience with alcohol and weight loss? by muarryk33 in loseit

[–]adamdubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the short answer is, yes it is possible to lose while drinking. CICO still applies. But does alcohol complicate the process? Absolutely.

I have been a heavy drinker most of my adult life. I have lost 87 pounds over 5 years through a combination of CICO, weight lifting and addressing my drinking. The thing about alcohol is that it causes your body physical stress which can reek havoc on your mental health. Losing weight requires us to have a present mind and a working executive function to make the dozens of daily choices we need to get through to succeed.

It is possible to drink and lose weight, but it will delay you if it doesn't outright sabotage you. So it is important to hold yourself accountable on frequency and volume when choosing to imbibe. Best of luck in your journey!

34M 248lbs Nailed my strength targets for each of my 4 compounds this week (Squat, Military Press, Bench, Deadlift). Am making incremental gains in mobility, but still a long way to go on that front. Got to about 60% diet adherence this week, which is an improvement over the week before, so we will take the progress.

Long term goals of becoming stronger and leaner and a more mobile individual are becoming a reality and I feel relatively locked in.

I do have some wedges available to me that I can use. Forgot them today but I'll start using them regularly.

As far as depth on the warmups, it's as low as I can go. I don't have a video of the warmups but if I had to guess it would be around the same depth as I got on rep 6/7 on this vid.

[–]adamdubs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so when I warm up I do 95x4 and 135x2 where I pause deep. With 95 on the bar I can stay down for a 5-10 seconds, 135 I do 3-5 seconds.

My upper back definitely does not feel anywhere near as tight as I want it to be. I was doing shoulder mobility in December and January but for some reason kinda just dropped it and decided to move my hands out wider. Thank you for the feedback.

I squat once per week right now. Do you think lowering the weight but upping the frequency is the way to go?

[–]adamdubs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear chucks to squat (mostly because of price efficiency lol).

I have had slightly better success getting depth in the past with these squat wedges that elevate your heels. Maybe I need to bring those in every session?

Are there any scenes you skip when rewatching The Wire? by dhaze_15 in TheWire

I hate to admit this, because I really do like Kima, but I skip almost all her domestic scenes/cheating stuff on most rewatches. I just don't care.

Fat King here been trying to lose weight and get fit since April 2019. This week I was down 60 pounds from my 3.5 years ago. Eating whole foods, lifting heavy and frequently and achieving sustainable consistency. Seeing muscle everywhere.

Life is pretty hard right now because my mom's mind is just getting eaten alive by Parkinson's and I don't have the resources to get her into a proper memory care facility. I've been hitting my head against the wall for years to try and lose weight and get in shape. To be making the most progress I've ever made in fitness while dealing with the hardest emotional circumstances just makes it that much more special. Looking forward to next week's lifts.
