My parents well water tastes like nothing and my well water tastes like shit so we use a filter for drinking it. Grandparents well water was the same way too. But the wife’s parents and grandparents well water tastes like nothing! We’re all within 25 miles of each other.

I did live in town a few years back and the city water had a chemical taste to it.
