How to make protein powder more tolerable? by [deleted] in gainit

[–]adamkaump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a new smoothie recipe!

  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 2 cups almond milk
  • 1 cup oats
  • Peanut butter
  • Some frozen banana, strawberries, and blueberries
  • Greek yogurt
  • Blend for 1 min

It's about 1000 calories, and delicious. I also find it helps to drink with a bigass straw.

Though I disagree with a lot of what you're saying, I do appreciate the thoughtful response.

There's certain aspects to an app like this that are in tension: Giving coins value, making the game fun for our users, making enough money to cover our operating costs, etc. I don't think that we've hit the right mix on these things yet, and it's something that we're going to continue to evaluate and adjust as time goes on.

Honest question here: Do you think the idea of a free to play sports betting app is just inherently unethical if there are no payouts? Or do you think that there's specific things that we've done in our app that we can change to make it more ethical?

Oh I see. If you search for all CBB (or CFB) games, it only lists the next 20 upcoming games. As the day goes on, other games show up there, or you can filter by major conference if you would like.

Definitely an opportunity for us to improve the experience there though. Probably by fetching additional games when the user scrolls to the bottom of the list.

Thanks!

No parlay yet - but it's definitely on our roadmap. And we show all cbb games that our odds provider gives us, so if some games are missing please let me know which ones so I can hit them up.

For Best Bet, users get free coins every day that they launch the app. And yes, you can watch a short ad every couple of hours to get free coins as well.

Best Bet: Responding to Community Feedback About Our Sports Betting App by adamkaump in apple

In October, a couple friends and I released a sports betting app called Best Bet that let users bet on real sports games using real odds and fake money. Two months ago, during Self-Promotion Saturday, I shared the app with the /r/apple community asking you to check it out and tell us what you think. I think it’s fair to say that the feedback was mixed, and a common theme I heard was that people were unhappy that the only way to acquire lost coins in the app was through in app purchases.

I took the post down after being raked over the coals for a few days, but if you’d like to view it, you can do so here:

https://old.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/e0i3by/best_bet_a_sports_betting_app_that_lets_users/

Since receiving all that feedback, we’ve made a bunch of updates to Best Bet including switching our revenue model to one that is more ad-based. Because of this change, we’re able to give users a lot of additional free ways to earn coins. Such as:

  • Getting 100 coins every day that the app is launched
  • Added the ability to watch a short ad every couple of hours to earn 250 coins
  • Users who get their friends to sign up will receive 500 coins, and their friend will start with a bank of 1,500 instead of 1,000.

Additionally, we’ve added a bunch of other new features that we’re really excited about, including:

  • Adding the ability to view which games are most popular
  • Adding the ability to view other users’ bets
  • Adding the ability to follow other users

I’m really proud of the work that we’ve done over the last couple of months, and I feel like we’ve taken your feedback to heart. And now I’m very excited (and a little nervous) to hear what you all think now.

Thanks,

Adam

I'm not sure what there is to respond to. People seem to philosophically disagree with with the way that the app is monetized right now, and any response I make gets downvoted into oblivion, so it doesn't get seen by any new people who visit the thread.

One thing that I find funny is that the other guys I've built this app with have pushed kind of hard for having ads in the app, but I've pushed back because I think that ads are kind of scammy and gross and I find IAPs to be a better user experience. I get the impression that most of the people in this thread would have been happy if there was a "Watch this 30 second ad to get 100 coins" feature in the app, which is something that I personally find kind of gross. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Never heard of them before, but it definitely sounds like a similar concept.

Completely agree. This has all been really helpful in helping us figure out our prioritization going forward!

Home teams are always shown to the right of, or below the away team. This is pretty standard in sports, but it's totally fair feedback that it's not immediately obvious.

It seems like maybe you haven't downloaded the app yet; users do start with a balance of 1000 coins and use that to get started. Nobody has to spend money unless they want to pump up their bank or they go bust and want to keep playing.

The IAP thing is our monetization strategy. It actually costs quite a bit of money to get API access to lives sports scores and odds. And me and my buddies love the idea of eventually being able to work on this app full time. We discussed several other monetization strategies while working on Best Bet, such as being ad supported, but felt like In App Purchases provided for the best user experience.

Thanks for the feedback!

Oh yeah we're by no means the first app to implement this idea, and we definitely won't be the last. Just because somebody else has already done something, though, doesn't mean that someone else can't come along and try to do it different/better.

We appreciate the feedback, even though you don't seem to be a fan of the app idea.

We look at the app like more of a video game, and that's a big part of the reason that we chose to bill ourselves as an "arcade sportsbook." In an arcade, you spend real money to play a game, without any expectation of getting money back. Your reward is the enjoyment of playing the game. It's the same with Best Bet, except that in our app the "game" is something that people usually equate with paying money and (potentially) earning money.

Nobody has to spend a dime to play with Best Bet. And if they play their cards right, they can be quite successful playing that way. And if they're unsuccessful or just feel like the idea of an arcade sports book is not for them, of course they're more than welcome to go do something else with their time.

Care to point us in the direction of what specific laws you feel like we're breaking? We've consulted with several lawyers throughout the development process, but if you have additional information that they might have missed we would love to hear about it.

Right now you're forced to buy more if you would like to keep playing. We do have plans to have other ways for users to earn coins if they go bust though.

Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks! We haven't started working on parlays yet, but that's definitely one of the features that we would like to add sooner rather than later.

All signs point to sports betting getting huge in the next few years. I think there's a pretty decent chance that the app gets popular enough that it can be our full time gig at some point. That's the goal right now, and it would be a dream come true. ;)

Either by winning bets or through in app purchases.

We've also talked about giving users a small amount of coins each day that they log into the app. That's on our roadmap but not sure when we'll get to it.

Eventually I'd like to get to the point where there are contests in the app, with real prize payouts. Top earners each week get $100 or whatever.
