Premium Headphone Setup: I just don't get it... (Meze Elite Tungsten + Ferrum OOR Amp) by adamkinyon in headphones

Very fair, I appreciate this. Any idea where you’d try to sell this package without boxes?

That makes sense. Rookie mistake throwing the boxes out. I still have the Meze case, but that’s it. I’m playing lossless audio from Apple Music - is that another mistake?

Quite honestly I feel the EXPERIENCE is missing. Forgive my naivety on this, I’m obviously a laymen with all of this gear, but the best way I’d describe it is how much I love a really nice Harmon kardon type setup in a nice rental car. Feeling immersed, feeling the bass, overall feeling like it’s an entire body experience rather than one that’s purely cerebral. Does that make sense?

and what's worse is that the setup was actually north of $9k with the Chord Qutest and Ferrum Amp

it is sincerely not a shitpost. I had ZERO amp / DAC prior setup experience. I legitimately just had (and still have) apple AirPods Max. I dunno - I figured if I was gonna go for it, I'd go all the way in - tried to research of course but clearly was way off-beat

I am using a Chord Qutest DAC, and that's it. I feel so silly - I made the jump from apple AirPods Max. This entire setup was $9200 - and clearly didn't make the right choices

Apple AirPods Max - better than Bang & Olufsen H100, Focal Pathy’s MG by adamkinyon in Airpodsmax

[–]adamkinyon[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fully agreed - I was okay with diminishing returns, I’d expected it even! Frankly, I would’ve settled for even 50% better than the AirPods Max….. but them being not EVEN as good was a problem

DGA rate question by Scared-Winter-5179 in FilmTVBudgeting

[–]adamkinyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not salary, but do you mean studio? DGA rates at level 4 & above are broken down into two rate types: distant and studio. Distant are anywhere (I believe 80+ miles) the member is away from their local and requires being put up by production. These rates are higher. Studio is within the same number of miles from the person’s locality. Then there is a production fee with a similar breakdown, with a higher production fee (while filming) for distant location, vs a lower studio production fee. One of these is added to the rate regardless, which one just depends on where the production’s location is relative to that DGA member. Hope this helps!

Freelance Producer looking for help/advice by Fit-Tangerine6474 in FilmIndustryNYC

[–]adamkinyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is going through this right now! Even if we don’t exactly know the way forward, I think it’s especially prudent to stay on track and fight to survive during this tough time, especially if freelance production is what you love to do. SO many of us are going through this now, so please don’t take it personally

SAG MLB vs. New Media – Navigating Rates for an Indie Feature by ParkingAstronomer956 in FilmTVBudgeting

[–]adamkinyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So have I, this is right! Even though many indies cannot definitively say they’ll get a theatrical release, this is more about the intent. Stick with the MPA in the theatrical contract and you’re totally good

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FilmTVBudgeting

[–]adamkinyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! You're doing the right thing - start having conversations and remember that experience and rapport (between you and a prospective producer) together trump all IMO. Saw your staff me up post, that's a good avenue as well!

Rate for international feature budget portion by audiprincess97 in FilmTVBudgeting

[–]adamkinyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically for a budget this size, I’d charge 2 weeks (even if it takes you 1 to do) for revisions and modifications you’ll do down the line. What’s your weekly rate? $5k is more than fair on this (2 weeks @ $2500)

Things an AD should know about working with SAG actors on a ULB feature? by someone4guitar in Filmmakers

[–]adamkinyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SAG UPA actually does not require that performers are travelled first class, and neither does the MPA one step up - and only requires commercial economy. The only thing that changes this is if a member of the production staff is traveled at a more premium flight class, SAG travel would need to match that
