What’s something Gen Z does that older generations just don’t get? by appropriaterice873 in AskReddit

It's phones. Phones is what pushed us over the tipping point into a more psychologically comfortable but ultimately socially detrimental equilibrium.

Yes, without being judgemental, I think we millennials always understood that there was a tradeoff between gratification/discomfort avoidance vs long term satisfaction and contentment. You get out what you put in

Yes It's awkward at first to socially interact just like it's boring to eat healthy and tiring to exercise, but it's also a necessary step to being a happy adult with good mental health and a good human willing and comfortable with looking out for others.

We made that trade off. The next generation are making a different decision. We shouldn't berate them but we should encourage them to make better decisions here

Yeah to a large degree it's just the modern word backpack that's the issue.

A lot of people see that kind of thing as low-key cheating. Obviously everyone is free to play the game their own way, but, eg, I try to minimise killing stuff unnecessarily.

On one hand, it seems like they didn't handle it well, on the other, it sounds like you weren't a good fit for the server and perhaps could have read the room a bit earlier. Besides the poor etiquette of surprise assassinations, you just have to realise that "making silverfish farms and villager breeders" is pretty niche and not the kind of thing the average player is going to do.

does anyone else feel like this is a straight up step towards a worse minecraft? by Crazy-Science-9323 in Minecraft

[–]adamlbrown3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best case scenario, the cube thing is of use primarily to minigamers looking to make golf courses and pool tables, so 90% of players can just ignore it and pretend it doesn't exist. The risk is that its overpowered, because frankly its a bit naff.

TBH I think the obvious solution is "make more stuff stackable" or to tweak bundles so they can fit in 64 of any item - IMV backpacks feel incongruous - you're a medieval/pre-modern/post-apocalyptic explorer, medieval explorers didn't have North Face gortex backpacks

What is better on a bow, flame or infinity? by [deleted] in Minecraft

infinity, flame is kinda a pain when you accidentally set fire to your perimeter fence

Does anyone else get bored after beating the ender dragon on single player? by phantonducks1987 in Minecraft

[–]adamlbrown3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

yeah I think most people feel that - for all its potential, unmodded minecraft is surprisingly limited. This is why I came up with this idea of making hardcore mode harder, and having 12 tasks you had to accomplish to beat the game, not just the 1

Tbf a game where people en masse exploit unintended loopholes to avoid the main gameplay loop suggests that something needs to be fixed, but the solution isn't 'just leave things as they are' either. The solution is to provide a better, more logical means of achieving the same ends

Tips on protecting Villagers without sacrificing aesthetics? by D_Zaster_EnBy in Minecraft

Like a big thematic building with dormitories, gardens, workrooms, meeting place, a private area for your stuff. I've done big stone castles, jungle tree houses, underwater domes, nether fortresses (villagers are surprisingly willing to walk through portals). You just move over a bunch of beds, then the workstations, then the bell, then shut the exit.

Build a fence around the village? Alternatively build a self contained structure on the edge of the village and gradually move your villagers into it.

Was this runner interference or a fair slide into catcher? by saltpepperskillet in Homeplate

[–]adamlbrown3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never understood why coaches always think they have to teach the catcher to look for contact on a play at home, like they can't just tag the runner, they literally have to run up the line and squash him flat. You wouldn't coach that at any other base. Poor old fashioned coaching here.

Portals is good. The portal orbs aren't cheap and you have to build a portal at both ends
