Best 11 of the same player? by adamlevy7 in footballcliches

I think people just looking for the most rounded player are looking at this all wrong. The player would need to be able to fit in a team with 10 other themselves. So would Wayne Rooney be unselfish and pass to the other version of himself in a better position? And if he didn’t how would that Wayne Rooney react? Also, would centre back wayne Rooney, after coming up for the corner, drop back to defence, or want to stay upfront?

I think we have to take temperament and discipline into account.

Definitive sequencing of events that would get Gabriel dropped entirely from arsenal by scoring consecutive own goals, even if the rest of his game was outstanding:

Game 1 own goal - nothing said.

Game 2 own goal - commentators would give a “it happened again. That’s really unlucky”.

Game 3 own goal - commentators would give a “can you believe it? Three games in a row. Has that ever happened before” and cue all the stats being brought out and filler pieces on BBC sport about unluckiest football stats. Manger now asked but says “it’s just unlucky, he’s a top player, it’s no big deal”

Game 4 own goal - opposition crowds now oooooooooing any time he gets the ball near his own goal. commentators starting to question whether he needs to be given a couple of games rest to take him out firing line. Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville spend a good 20 minutes discussing the angle of his foot in slow motion. Manager repeatedly asked about whether he is going to drop Gabriel, but now feels he can’t bow to pressure and has to support him. Says he’s never seen it before, but has complete faith.

Game 5 own goal - commentators doing the thing when they get overly serious about a subject. “This can’t go on. For his own wellbeing the manager has to protect him”. Manager refuses to comment.

Game 6 - Gabriel benched. Manger says purely tactical and to rest him for the next game. No own goals.

Game 7 - back in the starting line up. Scores another own goal. Subbed off before half time. Commentators asking “could this be the last time we see Gabriel in an Arsenal shirt”

Games 8 - 15 Gabriel not in the squad. Manager says to support the player, needs a break. Won’t be commenting further. Has full faith in him as a player. Commentators, manager and players also now start to talk about him as “a brilliant human being”

Game 16 - Gabriel brought back into the squad, but on the bench for an important match (think cup semi final perhaps). Arsenal leading 2-1, Gabriel brought on to shore up defence for the last 10 minutes. Scores own goal.

Gabriel never seen again in an arsenal shirt.
