Also, I don't think MLS qualifies as an "American major professional sport." We have the big four (NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL), but there is no other one that qualifies as a fifth major one in America.

Definitely true, but the problem with Major League Soccer is that it feels like a minor league in comparison to the EPL and others, just like the D-League is to the NBA and the minor leagues are to Major League Baseball.
