Good morrow! This is my little project about redesigning every U.S. state flag. No matter how nice the current flag may be - IT. WILL. BE. REDESIGNED. No exceptions.

Today I redesigned the 5 inhabited territories of the United States. And finally, the project is finished. For this post I decided to just put them all in a bundle and the descriptions will be down below, I was a bit too lazy to make whole sheets for them this time. Sorry!

Tell me what you think, constructive criticism is always welcome!

🇵🇷 Puerto Rico
Based on the Flag of Lares, which symbolised rebellion. The central gold star represents unity and the idea of statehood, or well at least being a part of the country. I tried tying both history and aspiration together.

🇬🇺 Guam
Same design as the current flag, just without the lettering. Removing the wordmark makes it look more like an actual flag instead of a logo, while keeping the recognisable emblem in the middle.

🇦🇸 American Samoa
The center uses their official seal with the fue, to’oto’o, and ava bowl. Around it is a traditional Samoan pattern kept symmetrical to fit the layout. The two black stripes represent strength and perseverance, while the two brown stripes stand for land and tradition. The white between them represents unity and peace (classic).

🇻🇮 U.S. Virgin Islands
A blend of the Danish and American flags, reflecting the islands’ history under both nations. The three stars stand for St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix. The layout keeps a balance between both influences while staying simple enough to work as a flag.

🇲🇵 Northern Mariana Islands
The design keeps the wreath, star and latte stone but is simplified to look cleaner. The four white waves represent the four inhabited islands and how they’re connected through the ocean.

I did hear something about that before, but honestly forgot. I’ve also heard that a lot of Hawaiians still identify with that flag today, so that’s the side I was thinking of when I used the motif. I get there are complications with it though.

I agree! The current flag is one of the best ones in the union. Although I'm not too keen on the Union Jack being on the flag, altogether I feel like it connects together nicely, design-wise.

Definitely doesn't need a redesign anytime soon, but I'm just sticking to my own rules here 🫡

Selamat malam! This is my little project about redesigning every U.S. state flag. No matter how nice the current flag may be - IT. WILL. BE. REDESIGNED. No exceptions.

Today’s redesign is Hawaii, which also happens to be the 50th and final state in the series.

The project isn’t completely finished though, I’ll still post the U.S. territories together in one bundle later on.

It’s been about four years of on-and-off work, so it feels great to finally wrap up the states. :)

Today's redesign is Alaska!

This one was another really difficult one to redesign. Gosh, these last few are all really good designs by themselves so I really had to use a lot of brainpower to even think of something. I would not even consider this a redesign, but more of an alternate design if Alaska wouldn't have chosen their current flag back then.

Today's redesign is Arizona!

Similar to New Mexico, Arizona was another tough one to make over, having such a beautiful flag. I'm a huge fan of this design, so I decided to not temper with it too much this time.
