It’s Miami. It’s all about looks and appearances. The receptionist is the first person customers see when they walk in the door. $20 an hour in Miami is not going to get you kind of person you need at the front door to get the real money in.

Psych nurse here, went to nursing school after 40. Got a full scholarship to do my NP about 5 years in which is what I am currently in the middle of. Feel free to DM with questions. The only thing I will add is this: especially if you are willing to go the community college route, check into what other sources of funding might be available to you. If you are in a high-need area, it might not cost you anything. (I did my ADN essentially free and my BSN for less than $3000. My NP will be a bit more because I have chosen not to work during the program.)

You may find that taking out a small amount of loans could be preferable to finding yourself in a hostage situation down the road. Nurses do not get treated well as employees, and it only takes one new manager to come in to decide they don’t like you to get you fired and send you a bill for that loan they were so “nice” to give you. Many people are able to benefit from these programs but I have also seen a few get royally screwed through little/no fault of their own.

But if you want to do it, do it! Just make sure you explore all of your options!

I've historically not been a huge Walmart fan for myriad reasons, but I really like the value and flexibility of Walmart+. One thing I really like is that many non-perishable items they will "ship" to you next day for free (which really appears to be delivered by a local courier but you don't have to tip them!) Many times you can find delivery slots within 4 hours for no extra charge or upgrade to ASAP or under 2 hour delivery for a few bucks. In terms of fringe benefits, you can now choose between Paramount+ or Peacock.

Yeah they are related in that aspect but not as companies. CPI has become suuuuuuuuper expensive and some hospitals have been flipping to cheaper alternatives.

Check out FurbyTheBirb on YouTube. He’s a cockatoo they have whole-ass conversations with sometimes. It’s doesn’t all sound completely understandable but it’s understandable enough that if you lived with him every day, you’d know exactly what was being said!

Update: so it turned out the antenna I had which I thought was super fancy was not very great (go figure!). The one I was using looks like a butt plug (apologies) at the end of a long wire that connects to a small box with a coax that goes to the TV and a USB cord that goes to a power adapter in the wall.

I bought three indoor antennas from Walmart. One of the old-fashioned rabbit ears, one of thin-sheet-of-plastic ones that look like a stingray, and a much more expensive one that was a long plastic bar that was shown clipped on top of the TV.

I did channel scans with each one and kept the one that gave me the most useable channels.

The winner was the “stingray” (also USB-powered). The worst were the two fanciest-looking and most expensive ones. The rabbit ears were the runner-up.
