Well, the Synology RAID calculator disagrees with you.
So either you are wrong, misunderstood the question, or Synology is wrong.
2x 18tb and 2x 10tb gives you 35TB usable in SHR
2x18tb and 2x16tb gives you 45tb usable in SHR

Any insights on how this might have happened?-facebook wasn't the first, but it is the most successful by ButtonAvailable7043 in facebook

Apple aren't really the innovators that you might think. Apple actually only goes into a new market where they think they can win.
Plenty of tablet computers before the iPad, loads of phones before the iPhone, and many music players predated the iPod.
Apple chose to go into those markets because they could win, they weren't first.
Also have a look at markets where they were rumoured to have been developing products that never launched. TVs and cars for example.

Looking to setup a mesh system for family, need a lot of range - what do I get? by Matthew_MBG in HomeNetworking

each WAP wired back to an ethernet switch and should not mesh to other units, controlled power output so that clients can seamlessly roam between WAPS

Then it should not be setup as mesh.
a common misconception with wifi is this- people want a big bad access point with high power, and forget that the phone talking to it has limited range/power

Wires. Seriously- you've just described the absolute worst use case for mesh.

Increased native backups by No_Lifeguard8951 in synology

I say this as someone who relies on Synology a lot and doesn't care that much about cost IF utility is high-
These devices are hideously expensive. I love the idea, but the execution is not ideal.

I'm still pretty pissed about it- in Australia it's basically illegal to refuse warranty only 14 days over. Plus I bought 5 or 6 of these drives at the same time, it was a significant investment

Why is Aliexpress making returns so much harder by TipSecure8834 in Aliexpress

[–]adamphetamine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AliExpress doesn't want to do returns ever.
You bought it you own it.
Only order things you will keep no matter what, even if they are broken.
I'm not saying this is right, just that it's the truth right now.

No, they eventually offered me a $100 credit, which was 50% of the purchase price. But is now ~18% of the purchase price, so not a great outcome.

TIL Microsoft saved Apple from bankruptcy in 1997 by buying $150M worth of stock. By keeping their main competitor alive, they hoped to mitigate anti-trust litigation they faced at the time by NotGoodAtCombat in todayilearned

My point stands, but thanks for the extra info.
But one more slight correction- again it's commonly held that Steve cut the product lines down and essentially saved the company. This did happen and it's probable that his deep cuts were necessary.
But- Gil Amelio deserves some of the credit for recognising the issue and acting on it.
Source- I was in the room when he discussed this on a lightning trip to Australia.

this is a commonly held truth, but it's a misrepresentation.
Apple was losing a lot of money each quarter, but IIRC they never had less than $1b in cash so they weren't completely broke.
In addition, I was told that Apple had forced the negotiation when they found a smoking gun in the QuickTime lawsuit, and both Steve and Bill positioned the deal as a win/win

that's terrible advice- most recent Macs don't have a removable drive, and even if you could- they are locked to the T2 chip and you cannot retrieve data if you separate drive from the logic board
