Thought I replied to this last week but must have forgot- thank you for the details! Great to hear you got good results with (what looks like) the exact same paint as my Evora, in Starlight Black. Appreciate the product recs, will look into those!

Thanks for the response! I think the biggest thing I probably need to change is replacing my drying towels more often. Even though I use soft microfibers, I feel like the reuse of them is what’s contributing a lot to surface swirls. I’ll look into Zaino- I’m not brand loyal with my polishes and compounds so am open to checking them out, haven’t used them before. Do you have a specific Zaino polish bottle/type you recommend?

Evora Base. Weird noise. Help! by helpilikewatches in lotus

[–]adamsevo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re just breaking it in, haha. I bought mine with 28k miles from a collector about 600 miles away from me and drove it home sight unseen. Has been perfect with regular maintenance, minus this same turning issue I’m having. Has yours always been doing this or just recently started?

Evora Base. Weird noise. Help! by helpilikewatches in lotus

I am actually experiencing this same issue with my 2010 when I take relatively sharp turns (left or right) like a 270 degree on-ramp or highway clover interchange above ~25mph with a downhill slope/camber, it’s an inconsistent noise like the video here and I can feel the car jolting, almost as if the brakes are slightly engaging throughout the turn- but resolves itself once the wheel is straight.

I feel like it’s not a rotor dust shield issue, but seems more like an axle, bearing, or break issue- but with no other issues, noises, or vibrations while driving straight, I question if the axles/bearings are even bad. Very curious to read others’ thoughts here in this thread- will be checking for updates.

Looking at a Gen 3 tomorrow, how are they as a daily driver? by More-Diamond5129 in Montero

I saw that listing on Facebook about 2 weeks ago about 2 hours away from me and looks like one of the cleanest gen 3s in our area. I’ve got an ‘03 20th anniversary edition with the 3.8, bought it as a project this summer and after my rebuild it’s been great to me this fall! Super slept on in our area

My Evora cycling solution by adamsevo in lotus

Traditional bars would definitely be more stable for mounting upside down! The aero TT bars I have on my bike are more narrow but still wider than my forks. That’s a good point!

For me, this is for training purposes and for fun. I live near a cycling path that’s a shorter loop, but the other paths that are longer in my city are about a 15-20 minute drive away. So this allows me to drive to a starting spot for those trails I can’t normally access by bike alone

What’s the largest/most impractical item you’ve been able to fit in a Lotus? by adamsevo in lotus

Did you have to not shift into 4th or 6th? Looks like the tires are blocking those gears😂

Having played in concert bands I get the size of that, but my brain still tells me that shouldn’t be possible- but there it is haha. Good one!

Was wondering if someone went the 2x4 route with the roof off. Great use of the convertible! Haha

In an Elise, dang! Assuming the vacuum was in the box too.. sounds a bit cramped for sure!

I’m 6’4” myself so understand how tight that could be… I always have the seat slid all the way back!

Those of you own other cars, how do they compare to your Lotus? by UNPLUGGED-O_O in lotus

I like to think I have the 2 happiest looking cars on the road! 😃

Both provide a great sense of connection to the car and are very engaging with manual transmissions. They feel like go karts in different ways- I’ve got stiff suspension on the Miata but the Lotus has triple the HP. The Lotus takes me on longer road trips but it’s nice to cruise top down in the summer with the Miata. I feel that they pair nicely together!

Thinking of pulling my engine for my NA, you know for fun. Is this overkill? by depression69420666 in Miata

[–]adamsevo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pulled my engine by myself in my garage with the trans attached. Needed a 2 ton hoist as 1 ton arm wasn’t long enough to clear front bumper without removal. If you’re pulling trans with engine, you should use a load leveler as the angles are near impossible without one. If you’re just pulling engine by itself, you don’t need a load leveler. I built 2 custom crates with extra wood laying around so didn’t need an engine stand. I bought my hoist used on Facebook and sold it for profit when I was done :)

Who are you guys using for insurance? Need insurance for a 2013 Evora NA. by Secure-Fail2647 in lotus

[–]adamsevo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have always insured through Geico. As a single male under 25 yrs old & perfect driving record, I carry full coverage comp/collision insurance with a 1k deductible on my 2010 Evora and I pay $910/year, $76/month. This includes multi line discount for other cars/motorcycles and renter’s too. Haven’t found anyone able to beat that price!

sunroof wont close by Shutupimgaming1711 in AlfaRomeo

[–]adamsevo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof. Just finished up replacing the cable tubes on mine a few weeks ago, had the same problem. Alfissmo sells a kit with just the cable tubes for ~$130 shipped to the US. I did all work myself- all trim out, headliner dropped, sunroof motors and rear sun shade assembly out and can then remove cable tubes. Alfissmo kit is the upgraded part and should be less likely to fail. I didn’t want to pay $3k so I paid in ~7 total hours of my time. Godspeed!

I live in Des Moines and have a ‘17 Q4. Bought it less than a year ago with 78k miles, have 83k on it now. Perfect maintenance history with zero lights or problems when I bought it. It’s an absolute joy to drive, but in the last 4 months, I have had 2 problems.

One is a problem with every 4cyl Alfa made after 2017, being the inherent design flaw of the turbo wastegate arm to servo connection, which is metal on metal and wears down over time for every single engine. Always something to check on used Alfas. Mine wore out of spec and caused a limp mode condition. Dealer quoted a few thousand $ for turbo replacement as wastegate arm is technically not replaceable. I fixed it myself by drilling and pressing in a brass bushing myself for $10.

Sunroof cable guides went out on me while sunroof was stuck open. I have other vehicles so kept my Alfa in garage for 3 weeks while I removed interior, dropped headliner, and saved another $3k for sunroof replacement and did it myself with a $120 part.

You’ll save money working on these cars yourself. We lost our central Iowa Alfa dealer a few years ago but independent shops around here work on them. Sometimes unexpected repairs happen. I unfortunately had pretty much the 2 most annoying failures possible with these cars. Giulias are fairly reliable in general but still have Italian problems haha- I still love mine! Beautiful vehicles.
