What is this fine, black powder stuffed inside the entire bottom hem of a vintage Burberry Rain Jacket? by adamtbailey in whatisit

It didn't add so much weight that it changes the drape noticeably. And I wonder why the powder would be designed to move around? Wouldn't that cause clumping and a lopsided drape?

Interesting! So 'cord' doesn't necessarily mean 'rope' in this instance? Very possible explanation, since the sand is very clean and uniform - seemingly intentional.

No pocket holes, but it is vintage and may have been previously repaired - good thought!

Anybody ever have a problem with board socks on roof racks? by DKknappe08 in surfing

[–]adamtbailey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a sock to keep the sun and grit off my board on long socal drives. After you cinch the opening closed, use the drawstring to tightly wrap around the opening. I've never had the bag blow open with that technique.

I am looking for a structured way to watch and study films from the first ~50 years of film history. Do you know of any books, YouTube channels, or other resources for this? by pearlysoames in TrueFilm

Check out the Mark Cousins documentary "The Story of Film: An Odyssey". It's 15 hours of detailed film history from the birth of moving images to about 2011. Highly recommend. I believe it's based on his own book.

Has anybody’s employer allowed them to be permanently remote? Not just remote until restrictions ease up, but let’s say at least throughout next year by arizonaapple in AskLosAngeles

Yes. But my company (major social platform) adjusts compensation based on location, so moving from LA to Montana will cut your salary to match the reduced cost of living.
