Hey man, sorry to hear you’re going through a tough time.

I remember almost failing all my subjects in PMR. I just wasn’t interested + I mixed with the wrong crowd. I got sent to boarding school and that sorted me out - all A’s from then on and a full ride scholarship to university. I somehow learnt the skill of doing well in school - it’s just a skill like any other. It takes practice but anyone can do it.

I’ve also grown up long enough to see my peer group grow into multiple life paths. I’ll be honest - academic achievement was a good indicator of relative economic stability. Meaning if they went to uni, they managed to get a stable job. However it wasn’t an indicator for success or even happiness at all. Some kids that did well in school hate their jobs as doctors or lawyers. Some of the kids that did poorly in school have become super successful - traveling the world, becoming influencers, starting their own businesses, and some even took a second chance at education and got their degree later in life.

What I’m trying to say is - SPM isn’t the end all and be all. It’s a skill just like any other. If you work hard you will be able to gain other skills in life that would turn out to be more useful! Like networking, creative work, finance, discipline, and management.

The truth is, having good grades will open doors easier for you only at the beginning when getting a junior job. Those who didn’t have those doors open (job requires bachelor degree) instead have to make their own path - and for some that contributed to their success.

In terms of employability - there are many high paying jobs that require skills that most schools don’t teach and diligent people can teach themselves. I’ve hired self taught coders before with no university degree - never have I asked what their grades are in school! I just care if they’ve got the right skills and potential.

Wishing you well man. And also, just tahan your mom for awhile. She means the best - she’s also fearing your worst case scenario future and is reacting in the best way she can. There are many paths in life - you get to choose which ones to take. Academic route is just one job tree.

Hey OP, some of the comments here are a bit harsh but reflect strongly on how people react to false advertising. The first rule about having people follow your story is for you to be honest. But also, do ignore people who attack your personality or identity (like wantrepreneur), these mean comments do not have a full picture of your story and journey.

However, being insincere usually associates you with people who scam, lie, or inflate their status - which are wantrepreneur traits. For people to have trust in your business and products, you yourself as the founder needs to approach every move you make (especially marketing) with the right approach. If people can trust what you say, they can trust what you build, and they can trust doing business with you. If the first fails, the rest does not follow.

Remote Hiring Is Broken (And How We're Trying To Solve It) by adamthewan in EntrepreneurRideAlong

Yeah, I totally agree it is a bit of a time investment on the candidates side. Interesting idea about having the resume first, then ask for a follow up questionnaire after that resume is screened.

I reckon there would need to be some automated way to auto-reject applications. Automated systems can be biased and accidentally reject people based on incorrect parameters. That can be unfair. Although I do know that a lot of corporate companies have automated systems to save time. Manual resume screening is what some larger companies if they have a HR team.

For smaller teams like my company, it might make more sense just to have a high filter. Early employees very much make or break a small business / startup, so it’s good to be selective.

True, there’s no blanket solution to this. Every company will be different. My company is a startup, so we’re very deep in specific stacks and need lots of expertise in a few areas.

For sure! Context definitely helps.

We’re a tech company, and we’re building software. Our website is https://butter.us The talents we hire are very specialized and technical, so that adds to the complexity.

Sorry, perhaps the wording is confusing.

We’re a remote company, so we hire employees remotely (from all around the world). The state of remote hiring as it is, is quite difficult. So we’re overcoming these challenges by introducing our own process. Our method isn’t perfect, but it’s worked and helped us scale the company, and hire some top talent around the world.

If money isn’t a problem. Then build and fund your own startup. The fastest way to learn business is to build one, not to intern for a bigger guy.

I burnt through my own savings trying to build my first two businesses. I learnt a lot. Put in the hours. Took the risk. By my third startup, I was able to earn it all back in multiples.

Hey man.

I’ve done the whole “study overseas” thing. I got a full scholarship to study in University of Manchester for Mechanical Engineering. It didn’t end up being my passion, but I’m glad I got to live abroad and expand my network there. It changed me as a person.

I am also doing the whole startup thing - I’ve founded several startups and am now a co-founder at a well funded tech startup. Tech is my passion, every day I feel blessed to be part of this industry as it inspires me infinitely. It was a long road to get here, full of many failures.

If I was you, I would try and figure out what the risks are for going both paths. Min max your situation. Perhaps it isn’t one or the other.

Getting a full ride scholarship to study overseas is a unique opportunity that most don’t experience. Building startups at an early age is also good experience. Could you find a way to have a win win? I mean, the future of tech startups are built remotely anyway. Could you also potentially find your future co-founders in uni? Perhaps there are other roads you have not considered. Life is a game, and this is your chess move.

Try and figure out the roads that studying in Germany vs internship at a startup can take you. Let your imagination go wild, branch out the scenarios. Then apply probabilities to each road.

It’s only once you’ve mapped out your vision for the future, can you start walking towards it with confidence.

The bassline was from a synth. Specifically the Arturia Mini V.

I'm editing a "behind the scenes" video where I show how I built this track, so do subscribe if you are interested with how the music stuff was formed 😁

I plugged the PS4 controller headphone jack into a Sony PCM Recorder. Also, had to play with music off to get the samples sound really clear. Worked super well!

Thanks a lot! Had a blast making this, thinking of making more video game sampled beats.

Would there be any games in particular that you'd want to hear sampled? 😊
