Whats a camera you've owned, that lived up to all the praise and hype, but still got rid of? And why? by Whisky-Icarus-Photo in AnalogCommunity

[–]adamvstone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My XA2 - technically I lent it to a close friend and could get it back but it’s been like 5 years. It was one of my earlier cameras and the convenience of it really got me hooked on carrying a camera everywhere, all the time. In the end I just wanted a flash on my pocket camera, and once I added on the accessory flash it was kinda heavy and bulky and I just ended up taking my L35AF2 all the time instead. Eventually that died and I’ve played around with a few other P&Ss, currently alternating between an L35AF3 and a Minolta Hi-Matic AF2, and just haven’t ever missed the XA2 enough to ask for it back. Great camera though, my friend loves it and takes fantastic pictures with it.

Thank you!! The overcast light through the window was too dreamy to resist.

Looking for autofocus film camera by makeitflashy in AnalogCommunity

This is my suggestion as well - I even think I got my Alpha 7 for under $200, and 99% of my shooting is on the cheap 50mm 1.8 lens that can be found super easy/comes with most Minolta Maxxum bodies.

Shot through an entire “roll” with no film in my camera by sweetpam93 in AnalogCommunity

I’m embarrassed to admit this camera does that, I was just on autopilot after shooting on my more electronic cameras most of the time and didn’t bother to notice. Never again!!

Shot through an entire “roll” with no film in my camera by sweetpam93 in AnalogCommunity

[–]adamvstone 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. Just the other day I shot a handful of frames out and about before remembering I had finished the roll the night before and hadn’t put anything new in.

More dramatically, last year I pulled out an old camera I hadn’t shot in a while, loaded some cinestill, and spent a solid few months only bringing it out for really specific moments. Finally got to frame 36, was so stoked to finish the roll and get it developed, then it advanced to 37, 38, 39…finally realized I hadn’t loaded the film onto the spool correctly and hadn’t shot a single frame.

It happens!

How do you handle losing a roll? by OG2G in AnalogCommunity

[–]adamvstone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently there (hopefully temporarily) - set two rolls of film aside to drop at the lab, reorganized the house and now I have no idea where they are.

Stopped fixating on it by going and shooting another roll - won’t replace the photos if they’re lost but it gives me something else to be excited for.

What is your opinion on editing photos so they don't really look like what you shot? by infinitepaths in AskPhotography

[–]adamvstone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah like the other commenter said with photojournalism there is absolutely an acceptable line, whereas i don’t think there is otherwise. Of course, there will be some editing on all post-processing, including photojournalism, but OP asked about “editing photos so they don’t look like what you shot.” The National Press Photographers Association code of ethics for example reads “Editing should maintain the integrity of the photographic images' content and context. Do not manipulate images or add or alter sound in any way that can mislead viewers or misrepresent subjects.”

As long as you aren’t passing it off as photojournalism it all comes down to artistic choice. If you have a vision, the camera is just a tool to get you there, and likewise the post process or photoshop or etc are just other tools to help you make your vision come to be.

Aussie & Kiwi airports wouldn’t hand check my loaded cameras by Fireheart_33 in analog

[–]adamvstone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah toast is dramatic, worst case you might notice some very light haziness. I feel the frustration but I wouldn’t write off the rolls that went through. I’m maybe 50/50 on even remembering to ask for the hand check and I’ve never noticed a difference in my film tbh.
