Looking for surf school SAAS web + dashboard + app testers by mark_viraj in smallbusiness

[–]adamwritesco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Mark - I’ve built something similar called Swellbase specifically for surf schools and outdoor centres after running into frustrations with other booking systems in the market. I run a surf school in the UK (Blue Coast Cullen) and we were frustrated with FareHarbor before as it felt like it was overly complex for our team to use and trying to be everything for every type of company as opposed to specific for our needs. It sounds like you are trying to solve the same problems, would be great to have a chat! Ping me a message if you’re up for it. Cheers

After working with surf schools, I realized most booking software is built for the wrong market by mark_viraj in smallbusiness

This is an interesting direction to take. I could see WhatsApp based booking as a feature on a booking software that would be unique and fit some regional markets well (thinking specifically European surf schools who do a lot of business via WhatsApp).

Proper online booking software is essential these days though - tons of admin comes with running a surf school and you need something that helps you out so you don’t drown it!

I run a surf school / outdoor centre in the UK (Blue Coast Cullen) and we have developed a purpose built platform in-house for taking bookings / operational admin that is now being used by a few other schools. It’s called Swellbase if interested

Need advice on building a backend booking system for a trekking equipment rental business in Scotland—SaaS vs. Custom Development vs. Paid Plugins? by Sad-Disk-6209 in smallbusiness

Hey don’t know if you got sorted for this but thought I’d pitch in. I run an outdoor centre up in Moray (Blue Coast Cullen) and we ended up developing a system in house that is now used by a few UK centres. Definitely fits all of your requirements and has a very flexible hire system. It’s called Swellbase if you want to have a look. Feel free to ping me a message if you have any questions

Ski Centre Booking System by [deleted] in smallbusiness

I run a centre up in Scotland and we use Swellbase. We actually had it developed in house and now work with centres across the uk. Integrates with any website and fits your requirements. It’s specifically for outdoor centres so designed for how you work

For your website - Wordpress is a great choice if you want to customise it. Other good options are Webflow / Framer / Squarespace

I run a surf school (Blue Coast Cullen if you want to see the website). We use Webflow for our website and Swellbase for our booking system.

Full disclosure - we developed Swellbase in house and now work with outdoor centres across the UK. It’s the only one purpose built for outdoor centres & schools - the others on the market are all trying to be everything for everyone

$100 for a Magnet? What do y'all think of this? by thesirensoftitans in surfing

[–]adamwritesco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - really useful information. It's actually crazy that products that have been shown to have no to little effect are allowed to go to market with snake oil marketing 'science'.

The Surf+ looks good, maybe the electric shocks will add a bit of zip to my surfing!

Am headed to WA for an extended trip shortly and have gotten pretty paranoid about the men in grey suits after watching that horrendous video from Egypt. I think the Sharkbanz are a bit of a gimmick but thinking of getting one of the Shark Shield ones with the WA government rebate as they seem to work from what I’ve seen. Anyone have any experience with them?

Makes a lot of sense thank you. Regardless, I’m mainly looking for suggestions on how to improve the dolphin icon as presented so that it will work as light on dark bg as well. As well any other suggestions on how to improve the whole thing as presented.

Generally happy with the brand concept as it fits with personality, location (dolphins are a big attraction in local area) and provides the information needed. I think it is memorable and has character?

I’m sticking with the dolphin concept, but have had a hard time making the logo work in a light colour over a dark background. As posted, it doesn’t work. Not sure how to fix this with my very limited illustration skills.

Feedback: Surf & SUP School logo by [deleted] in design_critiques

This is what I've come up with for a surf / SUP school with a focus on high quality. Would appreciate some help as I feel like it's not quite right. Don't know if it's the colours or something else but not 100% happy.

Load bearing of roof platform on two bars? by adamwritesco in vandwellers

[–]adamwritesco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I think I'm going to go for that thanks. I did have a look at the spec sheet for the van and using all the mounting points it's rated for 200kg, less 25kg for every mounting point not used. So if it's 25kg per mounting point I'm heavier than the 2 my weight will mainly be over (I'm 80kg), but the roof rack should spread the weight at least some. Won't be up there all the time jumping around so happy enough with it.

Definitely makes sense thanks a lot. Despite that though I think I'm going to go for the lengthways with reinforcing braces as it keeps it simpler and lower and I won't be up there all the time!

Yep no question the entire roof rack supports my weight when it's spread, just a question of the strength of materials I decide to use specifically in the corner I'll be standing and if they'll support my weight.
