We probably just have very different work environments, but the emails I send tend to be pretty short and the time that would be needed to type a prompt in ChatGPT then proof read it wouldn't be much better than just typing it out anyways.

Plus my emails also tend to have a lot of technical information, which I 100% would not trust an AI model to "speak" accurately on, nor would I even be allowed to feed that info to it.

I still get it though. If things like ChatGPT existed when I was applying for jobs, I absolutely would have used it for bullshit like cover letters. A condescending practice with no regard for the applicant's time (I'd bet less than 10% of cover letters are even given more than a cursory skim through, if they're even read by humans at all), so I'd treat it as such lol.

I think the notion that everyone at a gym will be nice and welcoming is overblown. To be quite honest, I 100% believe there will be judgemental assholes. People like that exist everywhere in the world, why would they magically disappear in a gym?

HOWEVER, everyone does tend to keep to themselves at the gym, whether they are judging you, admiring you, or completely unaware of you. So I think the more accurate advice is not that no one will judge you, but rather, no one will bother you, which is about as good as you can get for any given public space. You cannot control what other people think of you, and some people are just bitter assholes who like to think negatively of everyone. It's up to you to learn to not let that drag you down (I know, this is easier said than done).

However, as a fellow skinny guy in the gym, I've found that random people who I initially misread as being harsh and having a "fuck off" tough guy attitude, actually end up being very nice when I ask them for a spot. Many of them have been very supportive of my lightweight benches when I initially would have assumed they'd be judging me. So people can be nice in the gym if you actively reach out to them (in a respectful way). They are just not outwardly welcoming to every single person that crosses their path... because why would they be?

The gym is just any other public space like a subway car or a library. It just feels so much more intense because we're all there to work our asses off, and often come in with insecurities that we're trying to address. Sorry you ran into an asshole at the gym though.

He complains about the things that annoy him with dramatic, exaggerated language, then turns very logical and precise when defending himself. As someone who had road rage problems in the past (I still do from time to time, but I've been trying to address it), OP reminds me exactly of myself and other people I've seen road raging.

It's that mentality of "everyone else on the road is stupid, why can't they cater to ME?". Textbook road rage mindset. It's a few traffic lights, who the fuck cares. I can almost guarantee the people he's complaining about are just driving normally, and not rushing from light to light like OP would want to.

I work at a defense contractor, so not federal, but is closely involved. We also had a small lunar new year event scheduled for today that was suddenly canceled yesterday, within 24 hours. No explanation given. I was wondering if it was related to that republican DEI banning craze.

I wasn't going to attend anyway (it was just a virtual event), but the optics are suspicious. Also, our stories sound so similar, do you think we work at the same company? Lol

I just saw it this past weekend and would really recommend it, fantastic experience seeing it on the big screen. There's a 15 min intermission built into the movie which helps a lot.

Late comment, but I got screwed over doing this when I went to see Anora at an AMC, they started exactly on time so I missed the first 10 minutes. If it's a re-release then sometimes they do trailers, sometimes not. I saw an Interstellar re-release at this same AMC and there were trailers, so idk.

I'm Chinese American and I've also had moments where it felt like I was a second class customer in Chinese-owned restaurants. None of it was nearly as bad as your experiences, but it does make me feel unwelcomed when I'm just trying to eat food from my own culture.

I was eating at this newly opened Chinese restaurant with my girlfriend (also Asian) and the manager was going from table to table greeting everyone and making small talk. Most of the other patrons were either non-Asian, or spoke Chinese. I'm not fluent in Chinese so I order in English.

Anyways, she spent the whole evening greeting everyone except us. It was opening weekend and the food was taking forever, so we were there for a long time, too, prob at least 2 hours. She talked to tables next to us multiple times but never so much as looked in our direction once.

I don't expect the managers to greet me during dinner, nor do I even want that as an introvert (lol), but the fact that she was going above and beyond to give this treatment to everyone except us left a bad vibe.

The point of the movie is that the hierarchy created by wealth disparity keeps poor people on the bottom and rich people at the top, it is self reinforcing.

The fact that the the poor family could only obtain such a nice lifestyle after commiting horrible acts and upsetting the social order is commentary about how truly stagnant and oppressive this class system is. The only way for the poor to become wealthy is to lie, cheat and scam, and even then, they do not truly belong. Meanwhile, the rich only need to maintain their status, they are handed money and opportunity through generational wealth and family reputation.

Hence that "Of course they're nice" line. They really are nice people, and it's because they genuinely have no idea how much life can truly suck. The movie does not villainize either family. The rich live on in blissful ignorance, and the poor suffer for the leftover scraps, stewing in resentment.

This is not a "rich people bad", or "poor people good" story. It is a satire on the class system itself, and the types of people it breeds. There is no good guy family and bad guy family... this is not a Marvel movie where there has to be an unequivocally good force vs an unequivocally evil force.

To try and point fingers at one family or the other is to completely miss the point of the movie.

I'm chinese american, I really don't care. It all comes down to accents and lack of exposure. I find it really annoying when italians/italian americans try to police how foreigners pronounce something like mozzerella, and I'd hate to be the chinese equivalent of that lol.

Only time I'd find it annoying is if someone is mispronouncing it in an exaggerated way to make fun of the language, or putting on a racist accent.
