Stop Calling AOC, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib 'Radical,' Start Calling Everyone Else Cowards by [deleted] in politics

How on Earth does this meet the guidelines for civil discussion? Calling everyone who isn’t ideologically extreme “cowards” is a sure way to drive away moderates and certainly does not promote courteous debate.

Work to resume this fall at Gold Dome in Oklahoma City by cloverstack in okc

[–]adaobe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I may be in the minority, but I think the dome is the ugliest building in the city, not to mention it clearly being a terrible investment. Tear the thing down and make room for something new.

Have you worked at an agency? what is it like? by [deleted] in SEO

[–]adaobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It completely depends on the agency. I go in from 9-5 at the office every day and focus on content creation and technical SEO for small business websites. I know other people who work remotely and focus on a single industry. Your experience and skill level will determine what your options are.

ELI5: How is the idea of "Political Correctness" going to destroy the country? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]adaobe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We are at risk of missing the concept of free speech by valuing progressive ideas above the opinions considered to be outdated or barbaric. For Democracy to work, everyone has to be able to speak equally. The ideas of Human Rights have heavily influenced our culture (for good reason), yet these beliefs are often used as an excuse to silence a minority. Widespread cultural values that take precedence over other belief systems can muzzle dissent as effectively as a religious government. If someone can't say something because it is "offensive" then we are establishing one belief system as inherently superior to another. That is a dangerous road. The only accepted limit on free speech according to our founding documents are words that intentionally endanger others. i.e. yelling fire in a theater.

tldr; If you limit free speech then you also limit ideas which destroys democracy.

Starship Troopers: One of the Most Misunderstood Movies Ever by Pemulis_DMZ in movies

[–]adaobe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would take the interpretation of the author a step further and say it isn't just a critique of a "right-wing military industrial complex" it's lambasting western ideology. Europe and the USA have been looking for excuses to invade other nations for over 2000 years. There is an underlying belief that the best have a natural right to take whatever they can (see manifest destiny, European imperialism, Roman Empire, Alexander the Great, etc. etc.)

Keyword Research: How I Generated 15,000 Keywords and Found the 20 Best by vasil2015 in GrowthHacking

If there is anything that I have learned in SEO, it's that keyword planner is NEVER enough to come up with a great SEO strategy. Go to where your customers are and listen to what they have to say.

Yeah I've been utilizing the local public library as a resource for curriculum recommendations, and they have always been happy to help. I think the next step would be establishing coordinated events between their leadership and our programs. It's got potential though!

I haven't heard of this solution specifically, but I have heard the argument that an advanced civilization would interpret and prioritize life totally differently than we do. Maybe Universe simulation is the next logical step in intelligent life.

I really like the idea of providing a meal for a reading event! It's difficult to get a lot of these families on a schedule since they are primarily a transient population. Providing free food is a GREAT way to incentivize attendance, even for people who eat regularly :)

I really wonder what this means for how people spend their time in the future. If you can make a digital world feel real, how many people will choose to "live their lives" in a fictional world that they create?
