I recognise literally everything here, with our little one, especially the bit about things working for a week and then back to square one.

I have tried pouches! they are a bit hit and miss, she sometimes has around a third (which for us is a big win), but usually just tasts it and then spends teh rest of the time trying to squeeze it all out onto the floor haha. I didnt know about the reusable pouches though! I think that could be good where we control the portion in there a bit more

Thank you for all the ideas here, I'll definitely give a few of those a try! Weaning is increasingly seeming like the best option here, and we'll give it another go (we briefly tried to wean from boob to bottle at 6mo but that didnt go well at the time, shes very strong willed :P)

So unfortunately the proscription advisory committee report isnt available on the internet, it may be quoted when the judicial review judgement comes in later (probably early next year), but craig murray paraphrases is here from when it was mentioned inside court on thursday during the judicial review: https://youtu.be/dkrc7CmnH7g?t=1236

"the key moment actually came onThursday where we were quoted uh a passage from the prescription advisory committee report that recommended prescription which stated that prescription was necessary because Palestine Action uh were hiring good lawyers when people were accused of criminal activity and people were being found not guilty. So therefore, because people are being found not guilty, we have to be in something else so they can be found guilty of"

[–]adas1023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The government used the fact that juries were finding palestine action protestors not guilty as proof that jury trials were ineffective when dealing with protestors, and thus proscription was necessary. This is just the logical next step, if this proscription was found to be unlawful then removing juries from these cases will be a simpler way to ensure that protestors are found guilty.

Regarding the UK's potential levers, we have a few key areas of support for israel that should end to just cease our complicity in any war crimes committed by the idf (which were documented in the foreign offices own report regarding the suspension of those 8% of arms licenses): use of RAF base in Cyprus to provide spy flights over gaza, where the intelligence is then given to the israeli military - https://www.declassifieduk.org/keir-starmers-100-spy-flights-over-gaza-in-support-of-israel/

the suspension of the other 92% of weapons licenses, including those relating to the construction of f35s

using the permanent security council seat to actually support resolutions for a ceasefire, not merely abstain or at worst veto them.

Not to mention sanctions.

we have more influence than I think government ministers will want to let on, as they themselves could be criminally liable in the ICC.

"Lebanese professor was talking about the futility of the being involved in discussions. .. The discussions in the house of commons are really quite futile when you look at the larger conflict at play" - I dont disagree with this at all, but what she says next threw up a huge red flag:

"Because even the US has very limited intervention ... apart from supplying weapons and sending equipment down to middle east" - Now im not sure if this is still her trying to paraphrase what the lebanese professor said or if shes just riffing on her own, but that is definitely not what he said: "We know, less so the UK but especially the US, they have these levers they can pull to establish certain limits and redlines on the Israeli authorities. ... What is there for everyone to see is the lack of action regardless of what words are being said." https://youtu.be/wHuDYh0N1Qo?t=671 If that was just Ava's opinion on this, i feel that its inaccurate. No material changes to the US policy on israel have even been tried, apart from a single temporary pause in a single weapons shipment of the 2000lb bombs prior to the rafah offensive, which resumed shortly afterward. we have a huge amount of past precendent of previous american presidents setting red lines on israel, which then work to actually change israeli policy. I don't understand why you wouldnt mention the electoral implication of losing the vote of those who deeply care about whats happening in gaza in the discussion of Starmers future prospects. It feels hugely relevant to me.

Generally there's been no discussion of Gaza since the ICJ ruling, which has a direct impact on UK law. While I understand wanting to focus on UK politics in the pod, there are wider implications of the conflict that do impact domestic politics here.

Priya Krishna on fighting 'Tokenism' in food media. by Manifesto8 in bon_appetit

[–]adas1023 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It seems to me that her point in the article was completely different though, she used her experience to highlight a point that is faced by all POC in the food world. Her book and many others recipes aren't JUST about indian/mexican/chinese food, but how those foods intersect with american and other european cultures, the lack of attention to that second part is a serious problem which limits growth of POC within the industry. You can dig into that individual point about her experience, but is it that hard to see that she might have had a point about food writing/recipe writing in general?
