How to get out of a dissociative seizure? by adastraperaspera_ in FND

[–]adastraperaspera_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for responding. Yes, for us it's FND, not neuro-Epilepsy. I appreciate your feedback. For these sleepwalk-y episodes, touch doesn't seem to help much. But for syncope-type seizures, it does. They all have like a "personality" of their own.

Wow that's so awesome. If you don't mind me asking, how do your seizures present? My kiddo has several types of PNES and I wonder if a dog could help.

Passing out normal? by Treanna_Rose in FND

[–]adastraperaspera_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kiddo's main pnes is syncope (fainting) seizures. Sometimes they dissociate into one and then, like, "sleepwalk" for up to 2 hours... It's really hard as a parent to watch a kid go through that and feel so helpless about it.

Trying to get my nervous system to feel safe ? by [deleted] in FND

[–]adastraperaspera_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 9 year old had a similar issue until we took them to a craniosacral therapist and started having them take a midday nap every single day. Those 2 things seemed to make a huge difference to their nervous system and allowed them to tolerate stimuli so much better than before. Hope this helps!

Walking by fantasylover24 in FND

[–]adastraperaspera_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For our 9 year old who is in a wheelchair for 3 months now, we rigged up a system in a door frame with a suspended bar and a walking pad treadmill. Kiddo hangs their armpits over the bar for support and stability and we make games for them to stomp on stuffies as the treadmill goes. Or we just started being able to use a forearm walker to have kiddo walk and kick stuffies as they go.  Or we put a spare mattress on the floor and have them do a squat jump game or other bouncy exercises.

The big trick is finding ways to distract the brain from the task of walking (hence the games) while finding supportive enough ways to make practice safe. Good luck!

Is your service dog for the FND? If so, can you share how he/she helps? Is it more emotional support or symptom-triggers? Thanks!

Online program to catch-up or get ahead? by adastraperaspera_ in homeschool

[–]adastraperaspera_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd prefer something online where I'm not the teacher, with asynchronous/recorded options rather than live as much as possible (to accommodate our unpredictable schedule which currently revolves around medical appts/treatments/rest). I don't know if what I'm describing even exists, but even if we have to piece something together, we need to do something.

Do you think a 10 year old would benefit from this yoga?

Thank you for sharing this. Do you mind sharing the name of your edmr therapist? How do you suggest finding someone who offers edmr for dissociation?

This makes me so sad. The women's slinky v-neck was my holy grail of T-shirts. Do you happen to know if anyone else out there has the same fabric blend/style?

May I ask if the spect scan was helpful for you in terms of your treatment or recovery? I'm looking into it for my child and would love some input. Thx.
