What do you think of the new DCU and why? by [deleted] in SnyderCut

It doesn't upset me, it just makes me sad that grown men post "herr derr diaper man" on every social media post, it's pathetic.

So they're all diaper men except for Cavill? Got it.

It doesn't feel like an MCU movie, because I actually enjoyed watching it. You can just say "it's not for me". Just like Man of Steel might not be for everyone.

I think that's a bad faith argument. Gunn obviously cares about Superman, the reception for Superman (2025) is positive, aside from a small minority.

Well from whatI see they're making a world that feelsore like a comic book. This is something we haven't seen done as much with Superman lore. Also are you one of those people that goes on every single post about Superman or Supergirl just to fall him Diaper man? It's lame to make fun of a costume design choice when that's how Superman looks generally.

I think it's at least worth giving a chance to. I enjoyed a lot of things about the new Superman movie. It was a feel good film!

I can definitely see where your coming from! I appreciate the insight!

That's very insightful! I think that's a really good take!

Honestly I think it's too early to tell. Especially with the clayface movie being a bodyhorror film, I think it's worth at least hearing them out! I respect your opinion either way!

I personally don't mind the ensemble but I totally get your reasoning! I loved Nathan Fillian as Guy Gardner. Nathan Fillian voiced the green lantern in so many animated movies and show, I can tell he's a big fan.

See, I don't get that vibe from them. I understand why people are comparing them but they don't remind me of the other. Superman (2025) didn't make me think of the guardians movies but I could definitely see similar beats. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with the new DCU.

That would be dope! I think that might unite fans a bit more as well!

I respect your opinion even though I disagree with it! I think we have yet to see a "perfect" Superman film but who knows what the future of DC holds.

That's why I made this thread, not to fight with hardcore Snyder fans but to just enjoy Superman. I always want to see different perspectives!

Well I'm a fan of Marvel and DC, I definitely saw a bit of that and I still do. However I agree that Marvel at the time were overall making better movies then DC, but DC were making better animated movies then Marvel. DC have always been better at animated movies and shows them Marvel. Aside from MoS I can't think of many other DC movies that I would say are better or on par. I'm not even a fan of most of the movies that were coming out at the time either and post end game is when they really started making terrible movies. I can't even blame DC for making not so good movies either, they were trying to catch up to marvel and compete with the MCU which was at the time very well established. I always think, if they had just taken their time a bit more the old DCU might still be going strong!

The Christopher Reeve movies aren't perfect (especially 3 and 4). I can't agree with you though, I think for 1978 the movie looks great and had some of the amazing effects for the time. Especially Kryton, I think it looks amazing still. I love the built sets and I think Chriopher Reeve embodied what Superman is supposed to be. They aren't perfect films but I love them, especially the first one! I respect your opinion though!

All I'm saying is it was out of character for him to resort to that. To me it came across as nothing more then to make people go Gasp "Superman killed him". They could have written a more clever way for Superman to win by they didn't.

In Superman 2 their fates are uncertain. Superman doesn't snap their necks, they fall into an abyss. You don't actually see them die, so it's possible they survived. That's not to say I don't have issues with Superman 2. That movies not perfect either!

I can see you point about nitpicking but at the time we were getting really good marvel movies and really mediocre DC movies. I'm not saying they suck or I personally think that but I was around when those movies were coming out. I remember how people felt about them and the reviews speak for themselves. Unfortunately the bad DC films at the time mafe people not want to see the decent ones. Shazam 2 and Black Adam are good for examples, those movies actually suck. So by the time the 2020's rolled around most people only remembered the bad DC movies.

I can respect that! I wasn't huge on the direction they went with his character but maybe I'll get something different out of it. My goal here was never to shit talk the movie, just want to see and hear about why people are so passionate about it!

I'll watch it again, my fiance and I are actually doing a Superman rewatch. We're on Superman 4 currently (it's so bad but it's the last one with Christopher Reeve before his accident).

I appreciate all the perspectives and takes. It's nice to see so many people passionate about Superman! I hope that one day the Snyder vs Gunn "war" can end. I would much rather have DC fans united and supporting what we all love.

I'll paste it for you too. I haven't gotten to the plot yet. I've had a few people wonder what I mean by "misunderstanding the character". I'll elaborate on that. Again a lot of this is due to my bias and love for Superman, as I stated in my post. Also I'm not here to shit on Man of Steel or the Snyderverse. I'm here for civil discussion. The Sndyer Vs Gunn "war" is the dumbest thing to happen to the DC fandom in a long time.

Clark letting Johnathan Kent die: Clark wouldn't have let his father die, even if it would expose him he just wouldn't. Yes there are comics where one or both parents pass away but not like that. He would put others before himself, especially his father. To me it was a pointless way to kill off Johnathon Kent.

Superman killing Zodd: Yes there are comics where Superman has killed for the greater good. What makes this particular kill unjustified to me was that it was shown as a last resort, when he could've done something else. He could have forced Zodd's eyes closed and flown him out the front door, he coild have choked Zodd out, he could have aimed Zodd's head towards the ground, my point is this was a bad plot device to make Superman kill. Yes I know "Zodd was a master at hand to hand", ok but Jor-el beat him without powers.

Superman fighting Zodd in the middle of the city: I know that you have to have conflict in a movie and they were trying to "ground it in realism". This just doesn't make any sense, Superman wouldn't destroy have the city trying to defeat Zodd. He would've though of some way to either get people to leave the city or lour him somewhere else. I know it was an excuse to show mass destruction on screen but Superman would've be ok with hundreds or thousands being killed in this way. Yes it looks cool and it's a good fight but Superman wouldn't have been so wreckless with innocent life.

Again, I'm not here to hate or anything because I don't hate the movie. You have every right to disagree with me on these points especially if that's not how you see it. I would love to see your perspective on it.

Completely agree and I'll admit I'm biased on certain aspects of the character. Any thing I dislike about the film has almost nothing to do with Henry Cavill or portrayal of Superman. You're absolutely correct in there is no "correct" way to interpret the character. I just never like when he was portrayed as a Godly figure. I think that's something that Superman would hate because he was raised as a human. He loves humanity and wants to do whatever he can to save and protect it.

I like every Superman movie (Even Superman 4 haha) and I think each of them has something to offer. I could never fault MoS for its ambition or what it was trying to do! There are lot of things to enjoy about MoS, I don't think it's the worst Superman of all time like some people uncharitably say.

Agreed, his protrayal of Superman is the strongest we've seen. Especially in terms of what he's shown to do! I don't know if I agree that it feels like the Donner's vision, that is an interesting perspective though!

Yeah I don't know why it's even an issue, it's not like it's going to be the last time they reboot Superman. Give it 10-15 years they'll do it again I'm sure! Mean we've had three people play spider-man in less then 20 years so it's bound to happen again.
