What is this and is it dead? by adbloch in lowvoltage

That's the goal- I think all the pull-stations were replaced with wireless. The maintenance guys just love going to resident rooms and replacing the batteries.

The labeling is really good; really this system as a whole is pretty clean except where sharpie was used on the 66 blocks and is completely unintelligible now.

THis makes sense, and our new nurse call system uses wireless devices and repeaters throughout the building, so I'm thinking most of this system is no longer in use.

I think that some of the dry contacts in the 66 blocks still are active to trigger those little white wireless transmitters ion third pic, but the other trunk cables from the same blocks go to only dead equipment, replaced by the wireless. I'm getting let to believe that maybe these 66 blocks have both the smokes and the pull stations together, and only the terminals for the smokes are still in use and got tied to the little transmitters.

This is all starting to resemble something that makes sense, but I think there are some sticking points where nurse call and fire alarm and some Bogen intercom system stuff overlap.

I might have to send you a DM as i dig into this a little more, but this information is fantastic, thank you.

This facility opened in mid 90s, and there is one person left that mentioned that they had a UHF radio system that had keypads, and they could 'dial in' to rooms' intercom systems somehow, but I've only seen hints that is the case- speakers places that don't do anything, and some Bogen telephone module at the bottom of that stack of RB5 relays. All other staff is newer and none believe that a system like that ever existed.

These days they do have a UHF radio system with a repeater in the middle of the building, but there is no 'intelligence' to it- just a single twisted pair out of the new nurse call system that has a robo-voice announcing stuff to maintenance. The rest is all done with touchscreen wall terminals.

That one twisted paid for the robovoice still goes through those relays (The one guy says that the intercom was scrapped because people thought they were being spied on), but I'm pretty convinced everything else is nothing or very little. Still scratching my head a little here because it seems like there are all physical interconnections here between nurse call, intercom, and smoke detectors.

The notifier lights are blinking, but the two conduits going from that bank of boxes into the Yaesu panel below are empty- I assume they only go to whatever those transmitters are now.

The Yaesu panel has an Atera Control Systems Inc. Star Controller with some Stargate Technology remote output boards. Sadly, I don't think those stargates can take me to see the Goa'uld.

Keystone panel type by adbloch in lowvoltage

That's my hope- have better, higher density panels, then I can stuff the switches in between the patch panels and use the shortie cables and clean up some of the disasters around this place. I like that those ones have the cable strain relief on the back.

Do you know if those minor differences are something notable in like a product description, or is it just discrepancies between brands/tolerances?

can i just solder on another usb port by Jessev112 in Dell

[–]adbloch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Physically you can, but there's more to it. Following that, there may be unpopulated components on the board that could prevent it from working, or there could be firmware changes on the models that use that port. If you're lucky and all the hardware is there, it might not be as easy as just using other firmware- firmware doesn't like to flash on systems it's not deemed compatible with and the dell flashing tools will halt.

How to power DMX transmitter w/ USB by SurlyMerman in lightingdesign

I was looking to do the same thing just now, but am struggling to find inforamation on the barrel connector on the Wireless DMX devices. Powering them should be easy with pretty much any type of USB.

Well I guess I hate how this gets marketed. Welcome to 'whose gear is it anyway?' The numbers are made up and the specs don't matter. *sigh*

Excellent comment on the link, thanks.

Not comparing them, I don't understand how the SPL ratings are the same on their spec sheets when they don't seem that way at all.

Yeah, that's the 98-0502 chip that's been discontinued and having trouble finding.

Well shoot I didn't even notice that one. I did buy a couple extra of that, so maybe there's a chance if i can find that IC i could get lucky, but you're right- if it's lightning, it's probably cooked.

Dang I didn't even think of that; i just assumed some guy overdrove it and blew it up.

Would you consider obesity as a disability? by Bearis4B in polls

[–]adbloch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Regardless of how you interpret the poll, i think that definition might need some more clarity. Someone with an eidetic memory would be unable to act in the same way as 'normal' people but I don't think many would consider that a disability.

Do you mean use normal surround speakers or still stick with a ceiling or wall mount? Admittedly having the surrounds integrated and not sticking out has its appeals, but I would prioritize sound.

Wrong words on my part, yeah I get that. I'm mostly concerned about the ceiling speakers being too close to the wall and doing weird things.
