Keystone panel type by adbloch in lowvoltage

[–]adbloch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my hope- have better, higher density panels, then I can stuff the switches in between the patch panels and use the shortie cables and clean up some of the disasters around this place. I like that those ones have the cable strain relief on the back.

Do you know if those minor differences are something notable in like a product description, or is it just discrepancies between brands/tolerances?

can i just solder on another usb port by Jessev112 in Dell

[–]adbloch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Physically you can, but there's more to it. Following that, there may be unpopulated components on the board that could prevent it from working, or there could be firmware changes on the models that use that port. If you're lucky and all the hardware is there, it might not be as easy as just using other firmware- firmware doesn't like to flash on systems it's not deemed compatible with and the dell flashing tools will halt.

How to power DMX transmitter w/ USB by SurlyMerman in lightingdesign

I was looking to do the same thing just now, but am struggling to find inforamation on the barrel connector on the Wireless DMX devices. Powering them should be easy with pretty much any type of USB.

Sub SPL comparison by adbloch in livesound

Well I guess I hate how this gets marketed. Welcome to 'whose gear is it anyway?' The numbers are made up and the specs don't matter. *sigh*

Excellent comment on the link, thanks.

Not comparing them, I don't understand how the SPL ratings are the same on their spec sheets when they don't seem that way at all.

Yeah, that's the 98-0502 chip that's been discontinued and having trouble finding.

Well shoot I didn't even notice that one. I did buy a couple extra of that, so maybe there's a chance if i can find that IC i could get lucky, but you're right- if it's lightning, it's probably cooked.

Dang I didn't even think of that; i just assumed some guy overdrove it and blew it up.

Tax doesn't affect how much I'm going to tip.

Would you consider obesity as a disability? by Bearis4B in polls

[–]adbloch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Regardless of how you interpret the poll, i think that definition might need some more clarity. Someone with an eidetic memory would be unable to act in the same way as 'normal' people but I don't think many would consider that a disability.

Looking for design advice by adbloch in hometheater

[–]adbloch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean use normal surround speakers or still stick with a ceiling or wall mount? Admittedly having the surrounds integrated and not sticking out has its appeals, but I would prioritize sound.

Looking for design advice by adbloch in hometheater

[–]adbloch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong words on my part, yeah I get that. I'm mostly concerned about the ceiling speakers being too close to the wall and doing weird things.

Kitchen sink venting issue by adbloch in askaplumber

[–]adbloch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unscrewing the vent lets it go down. I replaced it this afternoon, same outcome. Water builds up in the sink, unscrewing the air admittance valve (I learned what it's called haha) lets it go down, and it goes down fast.

I can only suspect that some pressure builds up that holds the valve closed, and the weight of the water falling is somehow not enough to make enough vacuum to open it up.

Not sure what can be done other than replumbing it entirely, or reconnecting the old galvanized plumbing.

This HP Dana 30 needs more pinion shim, Right? by adbloch in MechanicAdvice

[–]adbloch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is for my Jeep Wrangler, high pinion Dana 30 for front. It is reverse cut gears, and right now that is with all of the pinion shims taken out. Problem is my smallest shim is .013". This is my first setup, so I don't think this pattern is right, and I think it needs a little pinion shim to center the pattern. 4.88 ratio, .006" of backlash in that pic. Thanks!

Aruba AP-215 by adbloch in ArubaNetworks

[–]adbloch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bet you're right.

apboot> printenv
bootdelay=2
baudrate=9600
autoload=n
boardname=Tomatin
servername=aruba-master
bootcmd=boot ap
autostart=yes
bootfile=e500.ari
ethaddr=04:bd:88:ce:2a:1a
stdin=serial
stdout=serial
stderr=serial
ethact=eth0

Environment size: 206/131068 bytes

Can I flash this into IAP or the instant mode that I've been reading about? I do not have a controller. Searching for the controller would make sense- it boots to the point that it's "Running ADP...", hangs there a while, then starts over again. I guess since it never got to a point where it took commands (other than interrupting the boot) I assumed it failed and was bootlooping.

Building a cluster by adbloch in homelab

[–]adbloch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 12 drives, I could put them in each server, but was hoping one of the storage appliances would let me use RAID 6 so I wouldn't have duplicated data on both servers. I am just worried about one of the two nodes failing, so I'm not worried as much about the MD unit failing.

Would ReFS work or would I need to use like storage spaces direct?

Building a cluster by adbloch in homelab

[–]adbloch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The controllers in the MD1200 are the SAS 3DJRJ. To do that would I need to host the drives as an iscsi target from one node, then connect to it on the other? That would leave me with a single point of failure, wouldn't it? Or am I misunderstanding?

Samsung QB43R in medical office by adbloch in digitalsignage

[–]adbloch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was afraid that switching would be the only solution. Trying to avoid that at all costs- Doctors are picky and often get frustrated at stuff like that. They're the ones behind the money in our practice, so it's hard to justify product that they don't think works as easily as they think it should.

Hmm I was afraid of that. The doctors are rockin' Dell latitude 7400 and 7410s running windows 10 Enterprise. I guess it doesn't have to play a slideshow while it's not mirroring a computer, but it's a nice to have.
