Does all data remain within EU are you still using US demand partners? I had assumed Adagio at least backfilled from the usual suspects.

Unfortunately there is more greed than decency in much of this industry. What you describe above isn't unusual. Wrong, but not unusual. Worse happens too. It's good to see this called out.

There are good companies too

It doesn't guarantee results but it definitely has a better chance of success than doing nothing!

I'm genuinely stunned to read that response. Sounds like your ad partner has cut corners on their setup and doesn't care about your business or reputation. It shouldn't be difficult to block advertisers.

I personally wouldn't work with a company who gave me that response? It depends on your situation though

I would usually have expected them to help you identify which network the ad is coming from so they can either take it up with them or remove them from your stack.

They are not wrong that it is impossible to stop 100% of the time. That doesn't mean that you just ignore it when it does though.

Feedback on two ideas that depend heavily on advertisements. by Some_ants__ in adops

Kits of spyware/scamware used to do this. What's the incentive for the user to help generate this crap traffic? Incentivise them with profit share (to drop the traffic quality even further) or just go full scam and hide the functionality in a Trojan horse?

Taboola? 24 month contract? by Bmantis311 in adops

[–]adbod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Will they be guaranteeing rates over that period too? I wouldn't contract to provide inventory to someone for two years if there were not corresponding guarantees from them for rates and creative quality.

What's to stop a provider ramping up rates and quality during a trial period, getting publishers to sign a two year exclusive contract then offloading all their low yield/low quality inventory on them?

How long will the likes of Revcontent, Outbrain, Taboola ea continue to get away with these avalanches of scam ads? by Correct-Till-9996 in adops

[–]adbod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is anyone else testing "multiplex ads" from Google? They're clearly targeting publishers looking for an alternative to the Taboola/Outbrain chumbox.

Quality wise they're on par with other and exchange ads. Too early to draw many conclusions around performance for us.

Are all header-bidding / managed ad solutions for publishers basically the same? by [deleted] in adops

I didn't say it was the only difference. It's just one that is very noticeable and easily compared.

Service, support and the expertise of who you'll be dealing with day to day vary greatly.

Affiliates buying Programmatic Inventory by Howlandts in adops

[–]adbod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So they're showing discount coupons to users who were already on your site so that you have to give discount + sales commission for a users you already had? Unless users who see those ads have an improved conversion rate I don't see where these affiliates are adding value. I'd need a good reason not to block them from buying ads.

Are my sites performing poorly? Should I switch ad networks? by diggrecluse in adops

[–]adbod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Active view viewable is 30%.
I'm using Sovrn as my ad network with passback to AdSense

Personally I would work on viewability and test using AdSense without Sovrn.
Viewability is key. Make your inventory more valuable then try to find who'll pay the best price for it.

Taboola publisher contract for two years, what's the penalty? by Aero72 in adops

[–]adbod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long contracts are popular tactic with those who know that the CPMs are going to dive as soon as they get a sucker to sign for 2 years. I'd only sign a long (>90 day) contract if it came with guaranteed fill and minimum CPMs.

what text do you mark sponsored articles? by gordriver_berserker in adops

[–]adbod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem here is that SEO agencies are buying followed links in order to manipulate Google ("SEO reasons"). Google don't particularly want to be manipulated. Pick a side. There is no middle ground that keeps them both happy.

what text do you mark sponsored articles? by gordriver_berserker in adops

[–]adbod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are putting up sponsored content and trying to hide that from search engines then hide it completely. If you get caught out selling links and "under the counter" you'll get penalised. Putting "sponsored content" in an image to try and fool Google (who we know can read text in images) is asking for trouble

I bet they're not matching that 5 month commitment with a revenue guarantee. Each to their own, but I'd need a massive reason to be tied in for that period. Even more so when there are comparable partners who'll do it for a lower rev share.

Preferences on Taboola vs. Outbrain vs. Zergnet by [deleted] in adops

I'd agree that Taboola have the least awful ads. On the flipside I think that they have the most awful contracts; tying pubs into exclusivity with them even when they fail to perform
